Guitar maintainence

depends on what causes the stain. usually, these yellowish parchments occur due to the player's sweat (reacting with the plastic) or due to weateher-related issues; this is unremoveable.

Let it be, adds character to your guitar. It's no longer just a showroom piece, it's a player's guitar now!

I have something i would like to ask as well.

I understand keeping ur fret board moisturised is quite important and so is cleaning ur frets. but i find it hardto do so with out removing all my strings. However my friend told me removing all the strings would stress the neck and damage it over te long run. Is this true? and if so how do u gys clan/polish ur fret and fret board?

it is adviseable to remove the strings & access your fretboard entirely. re-string your guitar after that; no damage would be done. removing strings & leaving the neck unattended for prolonged periods would be hazardous.

Noob here. What do you use to clean? Saw there are a few types. Recommendations?

Dr.Duck's AxWax would be good and it seems like most ppl are using this

the AxWax is useful stuff. Never seen my guitar so shiny before :p

only problem is getting the freaking oil out of the bottle. spills too much

for your fretboard, just use lighter fluid and extra fine steel wool or those green scrub pads thingy...

that'll clean ur fretboard right up and shine ur fretwires.

In Singapore, you hardly have to worry about ur fretboard not being moisturized so don't worry about it..

Thanks a lot for the info :)

haha i am currently using the Jim Dunlop 65s for both the string-care as well as the finish-care (its a black bottle with yellowish-orange label). As they are almost finished, i was wondering what other brands are there and how they fair compared to the Jims? btw are the Jim Dunlop 65s (for the strings & finish) actually working?

What I do is get those soya sauce bottles with the nozzle and cap. Pretty easy to control the flow that way. The cap of the original bottle is really not suited for this product.

Anyone tried toothpaste and toothbrush? haha... it's a very mild abrasive. I use that to clean my keyboard, mouse, and all those plastics that turns yellowish with the smoke. Works pretty well. Haven't tried on guitar parts tho.

you can use lighter fluid like zippo on ALL parts of the guitar.. works great for the grime on fretboards too
