Guitar Dilemma, what should i do?

Well i was thinking of getting an RGX A2 By yamaha, yes i've tried it out, i like it, but the only thing crappy is because of the knobs. the pickup switch does not work very well, it's hard to switch between the pickups because of the damn knob. and there is only one volume knob, no tone knob. i plan to bring it to guitar connections to drill another for the tone and swap the knobs for better ones.
(i could get the guitar from a friend at about 400 bucks)
OR

Thing is, im a tele person. what i was thinking is to get a squier tele body with pickups that i'd have to choose(any recommendations?i like the john mayer pickups tho or SUHR anyone knows the pricing?) and also would have to choose the neck etc. i've always wanted to own a fender tele, though i dont find it rational to get an american one yet because i dont earn that much.

Anyone can help? difficult choice. my budget maxes out at a thousand

Can get a MIJ Telecaster, around 900 i think... Those with stock pups already sound good.

SUHR pick ups are not cheap, i don't think they sell john mayer pickups seperate... The whole guitar contributes to sound, not only the pick ups. Alternatively go around buy / sell, might find the gem you're looking for there.

You might want to look at the SRV pickups as well. JM still uses the SRV strat frequently.

As for guitar, you can either get the CIJ or MIM strats.

I'm a Tele man myself, but isn't the volume knob in a Tele also a hindrance towards the pickup switch, especially wanting to change from the bridge to neck? Unless you want a Esquire, are swapping the control plate around, or wanting to install a Les Paul style switching =]

U could get either a Squier Tele Standard or the Fender MIM Tele Standard. The necks I would say are playable. But judging from ur specs, I'm guessing u want to built your own custom tele. If ur adventurous, u can go to Ebay and find a used Fender MIM Tele standard body and a Fender neck that feels right in ur hands. Doesn't have to be MIM standard neck, there are also MIA necks as well, just make sure they fit.

What I did was bought a used Fender MIM Tele standard body and an Allparts Tele neck (7.25 inch radius), which cost me about $520 sing in total including shipping.

thanks a lot guys for the replies.

well looks like noones supporting the RGX A2 lol. well it looks definitely very good to me and sounds great as well. but the problems are the knobs hey? they are much worse then any guitar's knobs. you literally have to stop playing it to switch to a different pickup.. so yeah.

But still hm, i asked for a maple body from guitar connections jees, they quoted me 800 bucks just for the body?wow are maple bodies that expensive?
they look great i like them, but just seems to pricey for me...doing everything up would cost a bomb.
does anyone know or have any idea about pricing? i love the SRV pickups no doubts about it, and too john mayers set up on his strat. sounds sexy. looking at things i might just go get a tele body, but i remember seeing a tele body but it was sort of like a cross between a tele and strat. it had the tele body and neck, but pickup wise, they used all standard strat pickups. does anyone know what that tele is called? i sure would like to have more pick ups on a tele like a strat to get more versitility in sound.so i was thinking having like a strat set up on a tele but just my own choice of pick ups?anyone can recommend me more pick ups and does anyone have an idea on how much SUHR pickups cost? thanks a lot guys..

You probably saw a Tom Anderson Classic T or something. Good stuff. If you got 2.8k. Pedal-itis is selling one~

Traditionally if you saw a Fender Tele with Strat style pickups you saw a Fender Tele Nashville. Fantastic stuff IMHO, versatility everywhere.

BUT, if you play Tele too long, I find that the middle pickup in Strats or Strat style guitars just gets in the way! But Brent Mason is having no problem with his.

And also Tele connoisseurs always say the neck pickup tugs the strings too much to impeded into the bridge tone. Thats why plenty of dudes love twang bangin' Esquires.

Personally I love having the neck pickup for blues, accompaniment and jazz, but one day I will have my outta control Esquire for the onions and radish country stuff~

The DiMarzios and Seymour Duncan pickups designed for Teles are great in their own. Seymour Duncan himself is a sworn Esquire man. Some say Fender Baja Tele are rocking because of the pickups, some were being sold a month or so back.
Blackwood has Suhr pickups on sale although I'm not sure of they are Tele-centric pickups.

Try a different piece, maybe? Perhaps that particular piece you tried has very stiff knobs due to lack of maintenance, or etc...

I don't know about you but I prefer to have a problem-free guitar rather than a problematic guitar, even if it has great tone. Don't get me wrong, though. I personally love Yamaha guitars.
