Guitar Care

im with deathism on the fast frets cleaner thingy - hate it...

I use a normal piece of cotton cloth to clean each string after the gig - works for me

SPIT works fine on the body and headstock ...BUT only if it's your own axe...or if you borrowed it from someone u hate?

i rem someone said before...

chain ur guitar to ur bicycle and cycle a round.... then u get a beaten old sch axe

i only tried the Fast Fret once. some people swear by it but it leaves a wax-like residue & rather detrimental to guitars with porous fretboard (eg: rosewood) as it embeds itsef there upon improper application.

everytime i change my strings..i clean my entire guitar..from the fretboard to the frets to the body to the cavity and everything i can get cleaned..

at one time..i got so sick of fast fret.i did not apply it to a new set of strings at all..

and my frets remained clean for a longer period of time..the strings lasted slightly longer..about 3-4 days more.before it turns black..

gosh..i hate fast fret.

get those high powered jet sprays from your corridor cleaner guy. yeah should get the pictures. confirm works very well..

haha anyways.. i use those cotton cloth to give it a good wipe after a days work. and a couple of days once i use a dunlop solution to give the strings a good wipe.

and if im gonna use a guitar that i havent been using in a long time then the strings are old and rusty. i use brasso to wipe down the strings. the strings become much much better. but that only for bedroom la. i wouldnt dare bring those out to gig.

other than that i change my strings about 2 weeks once. sometimes once a week depending on the amount of playing.

Once you put on Fast Fret, you can't stop putting it on or it'll be black in a flash!

But if you put it regularly...you'll love it...like I do!

deathism, how come your fingers get sticky from fast fret? My fingers actually become quite slippery/smooth, lol...

guitar care? my highway 1 hasnt even been with me for a year and its pretty beat. never cleaned the body as far as i remember. clean my fretboard every 2 months by using a cloth to get the fingerboard grime off.

IMO fast fret sucks, makes your fingers feel so slippery, smells weird, darkens my rosewood fretboard like hell, and doesnt really help at all.

Your guitar's beat after 1 year?! My guitar's been with me for 2 years and it isn't even beat except for 1 sticker! Da-yum!

Never cleaned the body as well!

brasso is too strong..itl lremove th nickel plating from ur non wounded strings = corrsdes faster...ur gauge would oso reduce..haha..from .10 to mayb .098..
so far e best i used is dunlop 65 string cleaner!..my strings were brand new for bt a week n a half..but u muz use everytime u finish playin..den ur strings would shine..

i never wipe string. no rusting problem for me unless i stop playing. weird, whenever i stop playing for a day or 2, the string start rusting if i play it daily no problem, except blacken string which doesnt really bother me. i never wipe/polish/oil my guitar at all, suck to be my guitar :?

haha. maybe i should post a pic of my guitar. theres alot of belt buckle rash on the cut away, its a strat, and scratches on the base where the strap pin is. my pickguard also has that black grimey spot which i never bother to clean. many scratches on the back around the trem cavity.

on its way to becoming a reliced guitar!

in contrast, all my pedals are almost as new as when i got them. weird eh

i dont think brasso works......tried it once......it stained......gotta agree with u guys regarding fast fret......its quite problematic.....also sometimes my fingers slipped when doin high bending......quite slippery.......

suckasucks: Well hellloooo low slinger! Wait, you meant that the horn where the strap button is has buckle rash right?
