Well, some musicians have lots of money to spare plus their shows maybe rely a lot of visual antics, or they are known for this kind of angst-ridden music and actions.

Or this kind of guitar can be used for budget music videos which need some visual impact to go with the songs.

Not everyone is a "I'm a serious musician and it's just me and my beautiful music. Nothing else matters." kind of uhmm.. musician.

that's lame. even the iconic Pete Townshend can be lame.
like i said, guitar smashing/stage diving/whatever is supposed to be spontaneous,
not a pre planned pre meditated thing.

Kirk hammett always has the same guitar to smash, its a bolt on so it can be easily replaced. I think a vid of his tech shows it on youtube somewhere
