GRG270 OMG! help!

I bought the ibanez grg270 with floyd rose temolo as my first guitar 2 mths ago...now it has so much problems,cant tune properly,the bridge keeps rising! It much problems,i must now bring it back to swee lee...i think i havr to pay them $70 for a set up!!....Reget like hell wish i bought a hardtail!

Do try to really understand how to set it up. It can be done, i believe we have Shredcow around here who did some help guide to setting up floyds.

maybe the strings you're using is a gauge which your bridge can't accomodate. Check the no. of springs for your bridge and the gauge ure using.

i dont think the strings are the prob...you see they are still with the factory strings

hi petrina, my suggestion is u go to swee lee with ur receipt. go to bras basah, not sims and look for adam. talk to him nicely, and let him know abt the prob u have. best to go on weekdays mon to thurs as there is less ppl, they'll probably be able to help u. n i dun think u will be charged $70.00. most prob much lesser, if they do charge u. remember to bring along ur receipt.

my thought is the guitar was not properly set-up from the factory. it could be fresh out from the box, and proper adjustments were not taken care of. if u check the spring compartment at the back, there should b 3 springs. if there is only 2, try putting another one. if 3, then the claws holding the springs needs to be adjusted. difficult to explain here.

you try bringing there. i'm sure they can help. dun worry, i'm not their employee, or being paid by them to say these good things.

oh, one more thing, if u uses a thicker gauge string than what is provided with the guitar, u usally have this prob. ibanez guitars are usually shipped from their factory with 9-42 gauge strings. if u switch to 10-46set or higher, or a lower 8-38set, u'll get problms. unless proper adjustments have been made to accomodate the diff string gauges.

The tremolo in question here is really an ILT1 I believe, which has poor tuning stability in the first place. Assuming you have not changed the factory strings or fiddled with the springs inside the guitar yet, my guess is you have tuned up too much and the strings pulled up the bridge. If this is the case, tune ALL strings down by one or more octaves until the bridge angle is back to normal.

If that still doesn't help, take echoist's advise. Just bring along the receipt and ask swee lee to help you do a proper set-up. Set-up is supposed to be free (with the receipt). Observe and learn while they do the set-up. This skill will definitely be handy one day. Btw, do NOT adjust the springs or the bridge yourself, or else swee lee will blame you for messing up the guitar and most probably won't give you a free set-up.

thanks so much for all the help...i will be bringing it down on monday.
I did not fiddle with the bridge at all so there should be no prob....i just hope i can find the recipt!

hey, u must, must, must, find the receipt! it is very, very important...
