Hey all, I want to get the LP Custom in ebony, the one with gold hardware. Problem is, i have bad experience with gold hardware before. Last time i bodoh go polish my gold hardware with normal metal polish, then become chrome. I scared gold hardware difficult to maintain this time round, and if it does fade on the ebony LP, it'll look weird la.

I mean, black and gold supposed to go along for the custom and Black Beauty. So how guys? :(

A: Don't use metal polish or any abrasive. Just use a dry cloth, breathe on the metal and rub gently. Remember that gold hardware is usually just regular hardware that is plated using an electrolytic process, so the layer of gold is not much more than a few atoms thick.

To vernplum: Thanks for the advice. Problem is, is it any harder to maintain than other chrome ones?

To Nefianz: Black and chrome also good! :P But can you imagine paying more and wanting that gold hardware, then it just disappears.. haha!

Any SOFTies who owns guitars with gold hardware, or those who have more tips on maintaining the gold finish, do share k? :)

Gold finish is the most easily worn off finish, short of Cosmo. You can try to maintain it but chances are, it will go off anyway, since your palm/sweat will do the job for you.
