Hi forum , i was wondering if any of u here have the same problem as me. That is when ur palm sweats abit , there seems to be friction between the neck and my palm making it "harder" to "slide" down frets on some songs.

Any advices or suggestions ?? :)

Hi again , ive read that some people used powder on their hands to prevent it from sweating and to smoothen. Will using powder spoil the guitar neck finish ?
I cant bear to sand my guitar

I use 00000 grit steel wool to rub down on the finish to bring it back to a smooth satin. You can get Colron brand steel wool from Homefix for around $25 a bundle. A bundle goes a long long long long way.

Im not that good with such stuff =|
Im afraid i might "spoil" the neck.
Anyway , will using powder ' ruin ' the finish ? =|

I dun think using powder will spoil the neck finish cos powder is used mainly to smooth the hands.

Peace! Cheers :)

the old nitro laquer finished necks are particularly bad for this.

I had a '76 strat that was horrible on stage for this reason. Can't quite remember who it was that told me, but basically the advice I got was similar to the previous posts.

Cut the finish back a little with a very fine grit wet'n'dry paper. Don't cut back to bare wood, just scuff the lacquer finish up until it gets smooth.

Now here's the big tip - Silicon spray lubricant. Hardware stores have it. Once a week, I would spray the back of the neck with this stuff. It dries in seconds.

I would also recommend washing your hands with really warm water. I used to carry sand soap (it was called "Solvol")with me to gigs and washed my hands before going on. In a pinch, yes, a bit of talcum powder will get you through.

It is possible to have the neck replaced or refinished with a satin finish - but sandpaper and silicon spray is way cheaper. It wont ruin the cosmetic finish if done moderately.
