alrite.. all the hardcore-rs and metalheads.. this is a thread for u guys.. this is some kind of a survey.. as u all noe i recently post a thread on having gigs without ticket sales.. ive had alot of great help from experienced organisers every since.. all i wana ask is these 2 questions

1) which venue do u prefer? cineleisure or fort canning? ok.. here are the pros and cons.. if we do it at cineleisure, exposure will be very great.. coz passers-by who dont intend on going to the gig, will pass by.. but the event itself will not be that big because of the space constraint.. but if we were to set-up a merch booth... non-gig-goers will also take a look..

ok if its a gig at fort canning.. we can arrange a very big event with big names.. and small names too.. (it has to be fair).. but.. this event will only attract the gig-goers.. cause fort canning is more like a place where people intend to go, NOT PASS BY.. so exposure will be less.. but nevertheless.. the space is big.. so im sure the gig is gona be big

2) the second question is.. do u mind paying $50 to $60 to play?dun wori we will try to reduce the sum sooner or later.. and bear in mind that u guys dun have to sell tix

so thank u for taking ure time to read this.. ure feedback is really important ok.. rock on guys

fort canning, because i don't think i'd want blaring in my walkwalk session

in other words, most people who go to cine aren't expecting/don't want a gig.
therefore it should be held at fort canning imo

if it was a metal/hardcore gig, i'd say fort canning. bigger space for moshing and stuff. and since it's away from passer-bys, they won't complain of the ''noise''.

Fort Canning would be a better place. At cine you'll get a lot of ppl who only listen to mainstream music, which maybe be a good place to expose the genre, yet again also a place to make ppl hate the genre.
Besides, For Canning has a lot more room for this sorta thing. Cine.. Leave it to those bands who do "softer" options like Pop-rock, punk, alternative, etc..

I'd say both... I've seen heavy bands perform at cineleisure and i must say the crowd was good... lots of non-gig goers actually stayed to watch...

as for fort canning, its perfect for metal and heavy stuff... i've been to the Slipknot concert at fort canning... need i say more?

What I'd suggest is, do 2 gigs back to back, maybe Fri evening and Sat afternoon till late... Friday's gig would be at Cineleisure, where in my opinion, draws one the busiest crowds... Once people get to know of the organiser, the heavy stuff being offered and the gig at fort canning the next day, they'll surely come by the next day too...

There are people who are into all these heavy genre, but they don't go to gigs... like my brother and his friend, melodic/nu/death metal fanatics, but only been to my gigs, that's all... For people like these, it's a good opportunity to "pass-by" a heavy gig, and then go again the next day, at a larger venue, with more like-minded people...

maybe cineleisure cos more expose?
yea dont mind playing 50-60
my band will be playing at cineleisure early next month & i dont know what to expect =/

yeah i saw ure band nye name haha.. we performing at cineleisure too! im the frontman from frameworktragedy lah bro.. we playing on 7 march 7.30

FORT CANNING.

firstly, its because of the huge space. Make a 2 day fest. Our very own metal fest. im pretty sure, bands are willing to fork out 50 bucks to play in a big place. i know my band would. it would be worth it. take a look at wacken or download festival, they do it on open field. like what one of the person above said, im very sure someone will complain about the noise and stuffs if it is played at cineleisure. plus, its been a while since local metal bands perform at fort canning. as for the selling, im pretty sure not many people from orchard would want to stop by and buy or even look at the stuffs that are sold. firstly cos on that day all the metalheads would probably be wearing black and all and i dont think they woud want to go to a place like that. they would feel uneasy. haha.

overall cineleisure is ok. its a good place for mainstream pop bands, but if you're looking into something much more heavier, id go for fort canning if i were you . good luck (:

the space is big.. so im sure the gig is gona be big

not really that through, gig space big doesnt mean the gig will be big.. make sure u can get a huge enough crowd to come fill the space man.. imagine a band playing at fort canning with only 40 people minimum crowd or something

Yup... ala Rock D'Fort back in 2006.

I played to 30 peeps. And the smoke machine fogged up the entire floor, covering all my effects. I felt I was performing in the Hungry Ghost Fest in a getai band.

Rental at Fort Canning Green is cheap.

Good luck!

i'd say Fort Canning.

an idea of headbanging/moshing/anything wild in front of a shopping centre just doesn't seem and feel right.

you may attract the crowd, but how many of them really like/enjoy the type of music you play.

hahah yea!
i'll surely be droppng by on the 7th
im playing on the 6march @ 0830pm
come down & see la

Because your band plays hardcore, it doesn't appeal to many despite the population of teens who hangs out there.
It will be annoying to the tenants. World of Sports wouldn't be happy... Famous Amos might not be happy as welll

Will be at Fort Canning for sure, big space for moshing and headbang :) don't mind paying a sum of money if the lineup is good
