Which one would bring me closest to a P-90/P-100 tone? Or are there any other humbucker sized pickups which would bring me there?

p100 doesnt sound like a p90. so i tink you need to listen more and decide.

i never tried the phat cat but the p94s i had in my Gibby didn't sound that p90s. it sounded like humbuckers with a bit more definition and bite but with hum.

Ok...I think I need some P-100 clips...I've heard only P-90s and I've seen in other forums that P-100 are like humbucking P-90s...

p100 sucks. don't bother with them.

want p90's? live with the noise if you're a "high" gain person.

the tone imho is to die for.

can't stand the hum? then try a Bill Lawrence L6XX series...

previously it was L495 but he change the series to 600s. Not exactly as raw and FAT as P90s but nice enough for me.

i own the phat cat, there's more snap coming from this one, typical Duncan tone.

another good consideration would be Bare Knuckles' Mississippi Queen:

Impromptu: The Vintage Vibes are ordered online?

sub: Where can you find the Mississippi Queen and the price, if you don't mind, =D? Between the PC and the Queen, which one sounds closer?

Thanks for all your inputs?

yes, you can email the guy, he will quote you the price. Quite reasonable I must say, and he reply very fast.

Can opt for creme, black, chrome or gold finish cover.
It will come with swapable ceramic/alnico magnet.

ive bought this too. 40USD for a used mint neck/bridge set. havent got around installing it yet.

me thinks you should try them first, unless your really sure p90s are gonna be your thing.

Ah...dream 90s...I thought about these too...but I can't get them online...as in, no means to bring them here...

G77 is the official Bare Knuckles dealer, they can help you with availability issues but these are boutique pickups, a calibrated pair would cost you at least $500...

another alternative is definitely Gibson's own P-94 pickups, has a more rounded top end, not as protrusive as the Phat Cat.

Hmm.

Subversion, maybe you could elaborate on how the P-94 is not as 'protrusive', as compared to the Phat Cat?

I'm really interested in the Phat Cat, and so far what I've gathered is that it's basically a P-90 in a humbucker sized shell and it has a slight mid-range scoop.

Can't recall where I read about the mid-range scoop part though..

Thanks in advance man :)

the Phat Cat is typical Seymour Duncan tone- lots of midrange definition & superb overall clarity. if you are into such requirements, the Phat Cat is the way to go, it is also one of the most affordable humbucker-sized P-90 on offer off the shelf.

the P-94, when i heard one in use, is what you'd hear coming from a good Epiphone Casino- all the fatness but nothing too protrusive in the upper frequencies. jazz cats might like this one especially the neck unit. it responds very well with mild drive.

on the contrary, if what you wish to propel requires lots of high gain/ upper drive levels, the Phat Cat does better. the Phat Cat has more Jazzmaster like pickup quality to it. the reason why it's my preference 8)

Hmm.

Ah, I see. Well I wonder if it would be a good replacement for my Epiphone G-400's stock humbuckers especially since I want to have usable clean rhythms and lead tones and my gain settings for dirty sounds are about 60-70%.

I'm getting tired of the muddiness and I want to go CLEAN!

But thanks for the summary mate. :D

I have P94s in two guitars and I like them a lot. I can't say they sound like a p90 because P90's can sound quite different. They sound quite different in the two guitars I have them in and different to my musicman with P90's.

I think they would be quite a safe buy, they are well thought of over at TGP (the gear page) but I believe they are significantly more expensive than the Phat cats, although I am not sure about that.

I would love to hear the Mississippi queen, anyone got them or even heard them?

Thanks for the summary, sub...you just made up my mind...=D

And thanks everyone who replied for your comments!

The Phat Cat is available at Davis, right?
