actually in certain situations, machines are better. Greater consistency and accuracy. Especially if they are properly set up.

yeah, but the fact remains that gibsons are still built using cnc machines just like everyone else, fender, ibanez, prs included. unless you got the real deal.....not the reissues of those....

eeeeewwwww.. i hate dot inlays!!

imo.. gibson has really dropped in quality over the years.. i wont want the lowest end of a brand that is already dropping in quality..
btw, most of the new designs look so weird.. i like their older models better, both tone and in looks

you'll be surprised how heavy my studio is , its way way way heavier than a les paul custom . add the 490 pickup sets and thats just a mean raw les paul . the sustain and tone you get from that baby is soooo good haha . but yeah i still prefer the premiums

Ized is not wrong. But i think Ized tended to lump everything together without seeing the variance in manufacturing methods.

CNC is the main way bodies are manufactured, and that is already a given. The hand made part is where your craftsman actually put them together and put in the finer details. The wood selection is another point where you cannot get a machine to select for you. That is done by human judgement.

Go check out their manufacturing methods, same for PRS and compare them to the factory assembly methods of say cheaper export lines or makes for instance.

The main difference and what I would called "made by human hands" is the way they shape and put it together.

There is no real template and that explains your variance also which some here contribute to as poor built quality.

nah... i'm trying to quell this notion that hand-made guitars are definitely superior than machine churned ones.

I have the feeling anything made with human interaction will never be perfect. But that's the joy of it.

That imperfect piece with its own individuality.

My personal opinion is despite Gibson using CNC machines and such, they've failed to reach a consistent level in build quality of their guitars compared to other brands like PRS, Fender, Ibanez etc. Hence each guitar has its own unique flavour based more on imperfections and errors in human judgement rather than actual quality.

I still think Gibsons produce great guitars *hints les paul studio* but there is an impeccable need to try before you buy, unfortunately......and when i say try, i mean really try. Like trying every Gibson in the shop before making a purchase as each one sounds so different.
