Gibson LP Standard Qs

1) Is $5K ++ too expensive for a Gibson Les Paul Standard?

2) And also, for someone who plays with heavy OD/Dist for genres like Goth Rock/Metal and Heavy Metal, is getting a Gibby worth it?

Cos someone told me, and afew else have too as well said, that for "Heavy" Genres, one should get something like an Ibanez, ESP PRS or something like dat!!!

Pls advice! Im in a dilemma!

The reason im checking out a Gibs LP Standard is cos it has high output pups and also thinking of getting a Gibson!

3) Any other suggestions if there's a better LP to get for those kinda "Heavy" Genres?

Thanx alot for the help!
Cheers!

1.YES 5K is expensive for a new one compared to US prices .

2.Metal tone for les paul? swap the pickups to EMG's la .even james from metallica is using a les paul custom now

5k++ is very exp. Guitar77 selling them for like 3.7k-4k. Too me brands/guitar type doesnt really matter when you wanna play "heavy" genres. Its all bout the wood of the guitar/pups config/amp and the player. Look at Iron Maiden. They use Stratocasters and Metallica; Sometimes kirk and james use lespauls.

Haha! i tot so! i was SL today and was blown away at the $$$ range! had a feeling it was too Expensive!

Can u or someone help tell me wats the diff in the Standards, Customs and stuff and where i can go to to get one at a reasonable price?
Im pretty blur on the detailed Specs abt Gibbys!

the huge mahogany body will give you a very nice chug tone regardless of the pickups. EMGs dont really lets the guitar's wood shine IMO.

if you have 5k to spend, get a normal priced LP then put in some bareknuckle nailbombs.

Difference between standards and customs are just cosmetics. Ive tried both personally and I prefer the sound of the standard over custom but maybe its the pups(burstbuckers VS 490R/498T). Though the custom is more visually appealing to me.

well im reaching abt 2K now. and im tinkin ofgetting one but so confused to get one.

theres 4 types dat come to mind.
LP Standard, LP Studio, LP CLassic and LP Supreme.

Which one to get?
Are there such thing as "lower end" Gibs LP?

thats wat SL told me. that the Standard would be better for my type of playing as they hv Burstbucker in them and are high output pups!

If i got the moolah, ill definitely get a wine red/alpine white custom and change the pups to bareknuckles and get a marshall half stack!!!

Anyway, its up to you. hafta try them all and decide which want you love the most.

Seems dat getting a Lp isn't as easy as getting any other guitar.
Well i guess once i've saved up afew Ks, i'll bring down my pedalboard and test it out!

Damn ... im confused man! haha!

Les Paul...
There is some kinds...
Studio, Classic, Standard, Supreme, Custom(Discontinued), Customshop, Historic...
all Les Paul has own souds..a little bit different..
I tried many Les Pauls...except Studio..
I tried from Classic to Historic(59, 68, 57BB, 58) and ZW...
If U want to play heavy sounds, Les Paul is enough..
and also can make hot and warm sounds..

I think Classic and Standard will be good for heavy sound..
Custom is good..but discontinued...
nowadays make in the customshop..
so the price is about SGD 5000 over..

and Standard price isn`t SGD5000...too expensive..
SGD 3000 - 3500 is reasonable price..
Classic and Studio is lower...

I have some guitars...
But I loved Les Paul Standard...more than Historic..
I also play hard sounds^^

dude,

when it comes to les paul. this is the place to go:

http://www.orangeguitar.com/

it's a local dude selling them. great chap. thus far, i don't think anyone sells gibsons as cheap as he does. not even SL 50% sale...

brand new at $3200... beats any US online shop, or for that matter any shop in SG by a way lot.

but if you ask me, get a used one. it's worth checking out the used guitars he has, you'll be surprised by the condition.

And if U want Les Paul sound, U have to buy Gibson..
Also there is many Les Paul Shape in other brands...
ESP, Edwards, LTD and more...
But Les Paul sound is Gibson..
ESP and other brands is their sounds..not Gibson..
it`s not problem..not good or not bad..
Gibson or other brands...this is important thing!!!!

im on u with this bro, but the prb is, which one to get! cos although puos can be swapped, cosmetics will also affect the price for Gibs, as ive noticed!
But from the ways it seems, LP Standard is a better bet!

Hey thanx man, will check him out!

And yes bro, im aiming for a Gibson Lp ... not copies! No offence to those who own them though, although ive seen afew HOT one!

imo, get the standard or the classic. won't go wrong on this. supreme? you are paying for the pretty look.

the rest like the studio etc... it's ok if you are on a budget. but from what i read, you can already easily afford a used classic or standard in the near future.

Ur rite turtlemuscle bro, set on for a Standard Gibs, but now my prb is the Cosmetics, in particular, the colour! i dont mind if its 2nd hand, the more "seasoned" i guess! haha!

Cosmetic and the color...
I recommend Standard or Standard Premium Plus..
because Standard is 2A maple top and Pre+ is 3A maple top..
Classic is plain top...

And color...U see the Gibson.com...
I like Amber, Desert Burst color(Standard)
Honey Burst(Pre+)

But U have to be careful...
I have Standard amber color..
I saw many amber color standard..I also had another amber color..
but all guitar is different top...
some guitar is not good...some guitar is very nice..
If U see my standard, U think Premium Plus...not Standard..
