Gibson BFG

Hey guys, i was considering accquring a gibson BFG. I think its a pretty decent guitar, however the guitar does not have inlays on the fretboard, only on the side only.

I like all my guitars to have inlays on the frets so do you guys know anyway there is to put inlays onto my frets without having to destroy the guitar?

short of spending a few more hundred dollars of inlaying. the best you could do is draw em on, or paste stickers.

thanks everdying, that really helped. but i heard studios are alot heavier then normal LPs? that is saying alot because LPs are so heavy alr.

I am not really an Orville fan but i will check it out thanks. Sorry dric but i dont wanna draw on a guitar i pay so much for, i like certain things stock.

I think dric's made a good point about the stickers. You did ask if there was a way to put inlays onto your fretboard without "destroying the guitar" and I think stickers would be the best way to go about it.

The Les Paul Studio shouldn't weigh any more or less than a regular Les Paul, especially considering it's the 'modern' and 'no-frills' (words used in the link, not mine) version of the LP. In fact, it's got trapezoid inlays which a regular LP Studio and the BFG do not have. On the downside, if you're looking for the exact same pickup config as the BFG, you won't get it with that Les Paul Studio limited - the bridge pickup is a 498T, not a Burstbucker.

Well im basically asking if there are ways to add inlays onto the frets. i personally dont like adding stuff onto my guitars so stickers would be a no no.

i appreciate the input on the studio-bfg but it is not exactly a bfg or a studio and i personally dont like it that much.

So the question is, are there ways of adding inlays to the guitar fret. please note the word inlays not stickers.

why do you need inlay? Its look very unique without inlay and you will prefer without inlay when you get used to it.

when I was studying in sec school i used to create inlays using a pearloid stickers and paste it on my classical yamaha guitar....created block inlays ala lp custom....hahaha

well then bro, if you really insist on inlaying, then you can try looking for kelvin from guitar connection, i think he does inlays. malcolm does inlays too if i'm not wrong. price wise, it really depends on what you want. can be from a few hundred dollars to a few thousand.

if you must have inlay, why dont you buy LP Studio? They are about the same price.

Heya, just my 2 cts worth, i dont know if its worth it to add inlays to anything other than a cheapo, project kinda guitar as a kind of experiment.

First, the guitar is already pretty expensive. Adding inlays will add a good couple hundred dollars on top of retail price, at the very least. So as mentioned earlier in the thread, for the same kinda money, you could prob get somthing like a LP Studio with all the inlays;

Second, resale value of the BFG will practically disappear once you undertake such intensive structural modifications; and

Third, the process is a very complicated, irreversible and possibly destructive one that involves scooping out large chunks of the fretboard.. I suspect that not too many local guitar guys will be willing to take up the task..

why BFG? why not copies/ LP Studio with pickup swap (instal single coil in the neck)?

i had already recommended that limited edition LP studio w/ BFG electronics.
yes, its a limited edition.
but no, it wont sell much cos most ppl arent willing to shell out USD1100 for it.

but if you are thinking of getting a BFG, then sticking inlays in (which btw is not destructible if done well), the price will come up to the same.

and LP studios are just as heavy as any other pre-2007 LP.

the weight you will get used to it, get a nice padded strap too.

as for the epi LP ultra, its a nice guitar, tho the one i tried was neck heavy.
im sure all are tho cos of its extremely light body.

I don't understand. I went to SL and tried the Ultra but the weight.... seemed the same to me! OMG.
Either I was blind (doubt so, it had the carved back) or its just me.... I'm thinking the latter. :smt108

basically, i can hold the ultra by the body/neck joint with one hand and flip the guitar around in circles easily.
thats not possible to do with a gibson or normal epi
