ghost notes (drums)

tell u wat record urself doing a full roll ard the kit. crash the right cymbal with ur left hand. then do all that with matched. i'm not saying its wrong just awkward.
another funny thing i noticed it that drummers that can't read very well then to switch to trad when given a new excercise or chart that involves heavy reading. it happens to me and i've seen it happen with alot of drummers. strange but true. and drummers who use trad grip never get laid either.

For a really good example of "ghost-note playing" in an R&B context, try and get your hands on Babyface's MTV Live in New York CD. Ricky Lawson is on drums and you can hear his tasteful playing very clearly.

thanks for the tip man will check it out, do u have it? hehe, man i watched the 2 against nature dvd by steely dan and his playing was pretty awesome i thought

when to use ghost notes..

i guess it varies when to play ghost notes.. like for example in a drum solo, you can use ghost notes to help you with timing.. or just so that it will seem as if you are always on the move with your hands.. yea? am i wrong?

i haven't really seen much drummers use ghost notes in songs which actually contain vocals expt for jazz... yea.. jazz is probably the most hardest genre to tackle as a drummer.

most of the times, only drummers can hear ghost notes..
dave weckl is good at this.. almost all his solos contain ghost notes..

traditional grip is hard to switch to when you're used to playing with the one like you use a newspaper to hit somone.. haha.. yea point's there.. even though me, i've been playing drums for 5 years... but yea.. i'm only 14.. haha

well im 18 and have been playing for 6 years, anyhow, my take on ghost notes are, they are freaking important. it adds losta color to whatever your playing. shuffle esp, it works it to the extremes. for non drummers, hearing ghosts notes would be like fast playing to them. just try adding ghost notes to whereever u think weird, it may sound like a weird plan but when the sound comes out, and if u hold a constant beat, its gonna come out strong and very funky.

yea

haha yes i've been playing the drum set for 5 years.. but the snare drum, i dunno but i joined the symphonic band when i was 8.. so yea.. i guess. thats pretty long.. all thanks to the school band la..
but yea.. i'm not what you call a drum god.. hha i've stuill got more to learn.. like ALOT..

Who gives a damn how long u have been dng wad? Think you're a hot shot? Your 6-12 yrs of playing are like chld's play compared to those who have started playing when u were probably born, or even before that. Same goes for music appreciation and interpretation. So stop being frogs in a well... Just as the TP officer will tell the speeding p-plate driver, 'eh ginah, your license is like a virgin! Bloody hell, know how to drive a bit want to garang already?!', I'm exhorting u guys not to have too big a head. Just give your opinion, don't have to try to add weight by saying how long u play yadayada, go wad collective yadayada (you can go anywhere w/o talent if u have the money)... In the end your playing bei gan oso like that.

hey i learn history bro.
we are taught to pick out the tone of a source based on the words he used :)

using words like. "who gives a damn..." "Your 6-12 yrs of playing are like chld's play compared to those who have started playing when u were probably born, or even before that." depicts a tone of anger in a way.

doesn't have to be me. but i'm sure none of the other pple in the thread were actually bragging about it either. so chill out. 8)

My dear boy, I'm glad you're so conscientious. Hmm, based on the source (your last post) do I sense some hurt pride? Maybe it pricks you? Or you want to be enrique iglesias and 'be a hero babe'? I know! You're dng it for Jenn Love Hewitt. No wonder...

This is why I thought it to be bragging:
1.
i've been playing drums for 5 years... but yea.. i'm only 14.. haha
2.
well im 18 and have been playing for 6 years, anyhow, my take on ghost notes are, they are freaking important.

No.1/the source implies: Listen to me cos I have played for 5 years! but sigh, I'm modest la. Only 14...
Source No.2: Trying to outdo the other by one more year of playing. Moreover, he has eaten 4 more years worth of food! (Brain develop more)

Nth wrong with thier opinions on ghost notes, but I found having to mention one's 'credibility' via time spent on the instrument is plain ridiculous. Thus I said, 'who gives a damn etc.'

So flame all u want and up your sarcasm, like I said, 'who gives a damn?' I know I don't, not anymore. Just don't forget to talk abt 'Ghost notes' and please be obedient to papa & mama (sigh, so many teens turning into contract murderers these days. Play drums la, focus the energy on something gd!). P.S hope you score well for your History next year aye~!

eh happiness, dont jump to conclusions man, if theres nothing constructive you could put here then let it be. dont need to get so worked up.

wah that's some bloody sarcastic shit there. well written out =)

but firstly i'd like to put that your first post in this forum was targeted at those who so called "bragged" about their playing years and not about ghost notes which was wat's written on the title of this post. now who's flaming who.

personally i don't like u now =) and u probably hate the shit out of me.
but can i propose we start afresh and forget about it. and that u actually post informative stuff that actually explains your concept of ghost notes the next time u post here? i'd rather u keep all those "who gives a damn" opinions to urself. thanx.
