Getting First Guitar with Low Budget

A solid-top below $100? Impossible... To be honest with you, if you want a quality instrument (even a quality beginner's instrument) better save between $150-200 at the very least. Not being 'elitist' or 'boutique-freakish' but you get what you pay for and I'm speaking from personal experience.

A cheap guitar, like the others have mentioned, are painful and difficult to play, and won't stay in tune well. Imagine a scenario where you spend more time tuning and getting frustrated than actually playing music. Besides, if you lose interest or outgrow the guitar, you can always sell it on SOFT's Buy/sell section.

My $0.02.

and then there's the option of getting one second hand? many softies here are letting go great acoustics, should slowly source out for one i'm sure you'll get one that you like. getting a guitar's like getting a wife, u try many, no rush and finally settle with one, rush and in the end u'll be the one tat suffers

try classical guitar

my first guitar was a m&e classical guitar for about $100. i'm still using it now to practice. The nylon string is easy on your fingers and definitely makes playing rather easy. Though starting on an acoustic would definitely be great as you'll get used to it. In terms of which guitar to get, i would suggest you get nothing below $100, as anything below that suck. but i would not put my money on a low budget acoustic. I have one for $100 and it's killing my fingers. of course i have not tried a taylor so i dont know the difference.

Well, just a suggestion. Classical guitar may be the right thing for you

i tried a taylor yesterday was scouting for a new one.. whew mind blowing experience but a little too much on the bright side. i'm talking about those with sikta tops. the cedars are great but hell they burn a hole in my pocket.

just get a cheap one then. i myself started out with a TGM acoustic, for 70 bucks 3 yrs ago. I still keep it, although it havent been getting alot of playing time since i got my takamine.

if that cheap guitar is the ONLY guitar you have tested, then it will feel decent, ok. but once you played a much better guitar, then you will feel the difference. then you will feel like yours is crap. then you will want to upgrade to a better one. but that is for later when you are much better at it. so since you just want to start out, i say go for it. get that cheap one.

I have a friend who shreds on a TGM and fina and a guy who owns a fender acoustic cause he just wants a good guitar. :)
