hello boy-os and girlie-os. afew observations in general from what i've seen and read here at our sunny forum.
first off is that this forums drummers are too focused on technique and don't know enough about musicality. true to some sense, but u do need to know as much technique as you can. its like trying to form a sentence when u only know 2 words.
2ndly i feel diff genres require different sets of skills and different techniques when playing. for example u play quater notes on the bass drum, a kind of 4 on the floor thing. if its a jazz thing i wld play heel down and pull the beater off the resonant head, if its a rock or metal thing i wld play heel up for more volume and dig the beater into the head. both sound drastically different but have the same note value.
if i do a 5 stroke roll, i could use the drop and catch (or push pull method) where the second hit is a snap of the wrist and fingers or i could play the second stroke like the first, a sort playing off the head method. both will sound different.
something else i've heard is that there's only a certain way to do this and everything else is wrong. i dun hear as much of this compared to a couple of years ago but its still kinda here. there are general parameters of certain things that are not too readily accepted but generally its a huge shade of grey. to know what these parameters listen to records and see what the most outrageous way to do it is, then take a look at the safest way. if someone tells u this cannot be done, ask them why. question it, find out, research.
the standard of the younger drummer, ard 15 to 20 are soooo goood. big thing i noticed is that their timming is so much better. techinique is just awesome, and alot of the guys have very big ears.
okie thanks for taking the time to read it instead of watching porn
