Genelec Monitor Speakers

used them before in my school while i was studying.

working in a audio recording studio now and they are using them too.

genelec monitors have nice bass response to them. their mids are relatively scooped so you'll get a studio sound to it. the highs are nice and transient, not harsh. good for mixing and hearing out bass instruments like the bass guitar and kick drum.

depending on what you really need, i think you may be better off working the genelec monitor with another pair of monitors that will allow you to hear the mids better ..

there are some other worthy competitors like adam speakers, JBL, Quested.

it also all boils down to how big of a pair of monitor are u looking for.... r u goin to buy a sub.... do put all these into consideration

older genelec are crap, the old 1030 that you could find in almost every studio are useless for mixing, all my mixing using them are not well translated. however most studio use genelec 1030 for playing your mixes for A&R guy..it's all they want to hear..

the 80xx series are better i would say, the 8040 and 8050 are way better. I've been using them for quite a while before sold it.

Quested are good also the S series are affordable...

what I found really good for the money is EMES cobalt and QUARTZ for less than 1000USD you could find a better translate monitor...

the 8030 i think replacement for the 1029 series..,play with them at friends studio..not really like it at all..

however I tried emes kobalt..for 700USD its really good monitor..

If you have been to Broadcast Asis this year and checked out the Steinberg booth .. you'll notice a pair of Sonodyne monitors on display ..

should check that out .. amazing monitors .. very nice hgh and low response .. mids and liquid smooth man ..

yap, I saw that, very nice speakers, but just wondering are there anyone here will like to own a pair of speakers like that if they are too costly.

Well i wont really introduce JBL to you cos i tried alot of their speaker and sub i feel it cannot make it.. i rather you spend abit more money buying something like K&F(kling and freitag) And least last you long and also Good sound:)But your engineer muz be good too:)

Kling & Freitag is awesome. i used two model. 1201 and 1215. its Good. nice natural music. the wood is made of birch . no plywood like Junk.But.Loud. haha. K&F is really awesome cityboy didn't know you liked K&F as well. anyway thats off topic. your talking about Monitor systems on stage. but we are talking about studio Monitor systems ? =P hahaha K&F is my choice on stage

WEll K&F there are peopl that use it in studio too:) so that jammer wont need to keep on blasting the house and spoil the speaker too cos naturally it it loud when ur amp you juz turn all the way to let said 3 oclock? haha

Have anyone heard about Blue Sky studio monitors? I've heard that it is picking up in popularity in European and American studios (as a Genelec replacement). Did a quick search and found this link. Check it out.

Link to Blue Sky

Have anyone here reviewed it personally? Care to comment with regards to Genelec's monitors? Thanks in advance.

There was an old issue of Future Music that featured the Blue Sky Media Desk, which is a 2.1 multimedia speaker (not real monitors). Apparently, it is good enough to end up being listed as an essential buy for 2006 as a worthy "entry" level set.

Next big thing perhaps?

Hi i have heard of blue sky monitor.

One of my mate in the US say it good stuff. he have been using then for gaming and other stuff.

can anybody tell me where to get one of these monitor? I may want to get 2 of these stuff.

Skywalker Studio, owned by Lucas Film use Bluesky monitors (many pairs) for their post production facility. However, many of the recording studios here uses Genelec monitors. The smaller range are also popular choice for home studios.

Team 108 is the distributor for both Bluesky & Genelec. I believe they do demos for the speakers.

If you guys can, check out Event monitors and Tannoy monitors. Heard they are legendary, checked out Event monitors and i'm eyeing to get a ALP5 pair. They got really amazing reviews and many grammy award producers and engineers are using Event monitors for their mixes.

If you walk into luther they have an Event monitor sitting on their recording desk. think it's their personal pair. should be the tuned reference series. Man, now that i talk about it, i should go and hear it out ... *drools*

hey...
used blue sky for surround mix...also for stereo in another studio..they r not that bad...u mite loose your lows with them but that mite boil down to placement and acoustics....genelecs for mastering with yamaha ns-10s..i forgot what model genelecs but they sure sound falsely great...haha....don need subs with them....worked with alesis as well...forgot which model...but they are quite accurate...but the studio i worked in had this huge hollow space behind them that...the lows are wow..so had to reference alot...and at home..a pair of krk rp5...suffice for now...

i'll be selling a pair of genelec 1030A's next month, just a heads up for whoever's interested to drop me a message. wickedly awesome clarity, it was like pulling the proverbial blanket off my speakers, but i'm switching to something a little more powerful for the music i do, just personal taste.
