I just started singing and it's really addictive so I would want it to be a hobby. I'm using a computer here so I was thinking if someone is kind enough to tell me if a normal karaoke set would do good on it ? I don't want to spend much money on those really good ones since I'm a beginner. I can also say my mic for skyping is relatively good and the noise cancellation is pretty good. Really not sure about this. Any tips ?

Do you mean you want to record your singing onto the computer? Since you already have a mic (for skype), just use it to record something and upload for us to listen.

For recording software, many recommend using http://www.reaper.fm/ (cheap and good)

Yeah. Since I'm not a professional singer. I'll just sing and upload and let people listen and in return have some feedback and improve. But I mostly sing malay song so it's kinda hard.

The cheapest is $60 ? hmm, still a student and I have no side income with me. So kinda hard.

Your Skype mic might be good quality compared to a telephone for talking voice, but when you sing you will hear the difference. So somehow you should try to get a proper mic. The Behringer C-1U is not great, but it's probably the cheapest decent USB mic. http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/C-1U.aspx

Or if you have a digital camera at home, you can see if the mic on it is decent enough, you can just record video+audio together.

For the software, use Audacity first, it's free. http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ You can do basic recording and editing with it (like joining a few separate takes or adding a backing track).

Ok got it. I use Audacity too. Any idea how do I remove it vocals ? I tried to invert the track, it still have it's vocals. Another way that I found was to split and just record. Mute the original vocals and replace with my vocals.

How much does the mic cost btw ? Approximately ?
