Fret wear

Hi guys,

Ive got a Cort X9, my first guitar, which is about 6 yrs old. Its really nice playing this guitar. Anyway I noticed that the frets have some wear and tear on it, like there is a concave spot where the string touches the fret. Just wondering, whats happens after this? Will the guitar become unusable in time to come, or can I 're-fret' the guitar? How much will it cost?

I doubt the frets tear If it does, you have monster hands and fingers.

Anyway, fretwear is natural and comes with playing. The concave spot is fretwear.

at this moment, send to a shop first. ask for the luthier's advice on whether your guitar needs a refret or just a leveling of frets. refretting is quite expensive and I wouldnt want to do that unless its absolutely necessary.

whats the diff between fret levelling and fret change?

Fret change - The entire changing of the frets on the guitar, replacing the old ones and adding new ones.

Fret levelling - Evening the level of each frets to make each one the same height.. a.k.a Lowering the other frets to match the height of the other already lowered ones.

This does not require you to change the frets completely unlike Fret change.

Sometimes its better to change 3-4 frets, then lower the new ones to match the old ones. So you don't have to change all your frets.

Do keep in mind that there's a slight risk involved in changing frets, damaging the fretboard is one of them.
