freelance modeling agency... legit?

im sure those workers have some sort of quota on how many people's number they must get.

sure to be a model, most of the time, u need a portfolio unless you're super goodlooking and got that thing companies require(b00bs, face structure, tanned skin blabla). these companies are just doing their job as modelling agencies, having ur portfolio done, keeping them in their database. no company wants u then u dont get any jobs. simple as that.

if u need to pay to do a portfolio before u can get jobs..more than likely they are selling the photography services more than the person itself..

its almost like saying..eg.wah kaka can play very good soccer, but before he can join the team, he has to buy his jersey n his boots b4 he can join us.......

if the scouter approaches u off the street....it doesnt seem very glam right?

take it from me..i work in a modelling agency...if u got the 'stuff', u will not be asked to pay..e agency will arrange testshoots for u for u to build up ur book...

Ok I'm not sure where I should put this but anyway..

So the other day I was at orchard road and this lady came up to me and said she's from some freelance modeling agency and she asked for my number and gave me her card. So I decided to just give her my number.

Well yesterday, they called me up and asked me to go down for an interview today so I just got home from there. They told me I have to pay like, $370 for a photo shoot so they can make a portfolio for me so they can send the portfolio to advertising companies when they ask for models.

So my concern is, what if I spend so much money on that photo shoot and in the end never get a chance to be in any advertisements? Has anyone here been through this or know anyone who has? Any advice would be appreciated

My advice.
Don't.
I've experienced the exact same thing as you, a lady from Create Talents came up to me along Lucky Plaza and pass me her namecard, if I'm not wrong, a white card.
But I didn't give her a call cos I know it's crap.
And it is.
She kept calling me and ask if I were interested. Said something like I will have to pay for a portfolio and the company will send the folio to some modelling agency and blah blah. I kept saying no and she still wouldn't stop bugging me.

Why would you wanna pay $370 for a photoshoot that doesn't guarantee you a place in the modelling industry.

And WHY modelling?
I'd rather spend $370 on music stuffs. :)

If I'm not wrong this is how it works:

The modelling agency is sort of like a third party medium...
They hunt for models and build their catalogue of available models.
They approach companies looking for models that wish to advertise.
Companies look through their catalogue of models and choose those they like.

So it's really whether the company spots you or not - the modelling agency usually cannot guarantee anything. But if you're interested and don't mind a portfolio - why not?

its misleading ,imho, to tell someone is model material n get him to pay money to do a portfolio ..

but if they say its for your portfolio collection, then i hv no issue..

in actual sense...its just putting money into the pockets of the photographer.....

it sucks.

all i am saying in not to fall into the honey coated words n promise of instant karma//take time to see , watch n learn......

its not only for create talents..but whichever modelling agencies n stuff
just like before u buy guitar u will check , test n evaluate...not buy becoz it will make u a instant rock star......

So like WE ARE ALL POTENTIAL MODELS
hahahahahahahaha. Nonsense.

SOME HAVE MORE POTENTIAL THAN OTHERS .....

This lady lady lady..Is it all the same lady who approached you guys? I've been approached by a lady too, and at same location at Orchard. This give me the suspicion that it is actually the same lady..lol

and of course, I know too well I can't make it with my small eyes and big nose.. So I think they are waste of time. You should save the money on your band's portfolio instead! haha :D

How many of you have actually paid for your portfolio and not get jobs? All the friends I know who paid for their portfolios definitely broke even (at the very least).

Fancy calling it a scam when you've not even gone through the process.

VISA: my son not even 1 month old leh. cannot go out!!!

a modelling agency, okay a GOOD modelling agency will help find modelling gigs for models for free. they earn money from the clients they get, not the models that they help find. A GOOD modelling agency will be EZEN Models. They helped me get over 12 modelling opportunities before, never paid a cent.

Also, my friend worked for Create Talents before. Yes its a legal thing they're doing, &he earns money from each person he gets to sign up. Sort of like a commission based job? Also he gets more money if he gets 10 people to sign up a month. Like a bonus. Okay Create Talents DO get people modelling gigs after they get a portfolio done at their place. But they get them like 5 every 6 months, so to spread around the clients they have, cos honestly they dont have much.

Hope these helps the people who gets approached by " fresh faces - finders".
