With their reinterpretation of popular Singaporean folk tunes such as Rasa Sayang and Mandarin oldies such as Wo Yao Ni, Broken Orange Fence champions the cause of putting the public appeal back into a genre misconstrued as inaccessible.

Managed to catch Broken Orange Fence tonight (http://brokenorangefence.com/), really enjoyable. They'll be playing another set on Monday, for those who are interested to catch them. 7.15PM I believe.

The drummer, according to the webiste, is Lin Chow, his cymbals sounded great, really blended well together. I personally felt his set was tuned a little too low, more rockish then jazz, but I guess that's something very personal to each of us.

More swing and jazz coming up tomorrow, I'll probably be going.

THE GOODFELLAS QUARTET
The Goodfellas Quartet started when Andrew Lim, guitarist and leader of the group, decided to set up a group to explore jazz music in an unusual string format to revisit classic tunes and arrangements which have long been forgotten. This hugely ignored instrumentation has proven unique in its sound, musical and emotional scope. The first in a series of projects, they will be concentrating on the great Benny Goodman Group repertoire. The Goodfellas Quartet comprises of Andrew and Kim Chye on the guitar, Shu Mei on the violin and Brandon on the Double Bass.

Wow, those who didn't go tonight missed out on a great treat!

The jam session at the end ended 1/2 hour behind schedule because the musicians were just so fired up! Absolutely kicked ass.

Featured Mario Serio, and guys from ChromaZone, bassist - Christy Smith drummer - Ed Layman. Including two young 12-year-old kids who got behind the keys and drums!

Of course, plus Singapore's very own Jimmy Lee, who well looked like he could have solo'ed till we all missed our buses.

If you missed it, you've got another chance on thursday.

Do check out Soulitude and myself at Dubliner (every Friday night from 9.30pm to 12.45am) located in Winston House at Oxley Road. Very casual venue...great place to chill out for a drink and a few games of pool...
