for the love of god recording using zoom g7

Very very very nice! You've really captured his sustain, how it almost leads into feedback, and the delay is perfect. Can I ask, where did you get the back track!
Playing is also very nice - strong bends for the most part and the harmonics rang nicely. Quite a few timing issues though. Towards the end major pitch problems...but for the most part man, great effort. Better than I could do anyhow!

well
i am not very sure of that song

i got that track from guitarbt.com

anyway its a first take so its quite bad i think haha

Dude.

It sounds like you don't even know the song, yet alone practiced it.

There's many timing issues, bending, pitch and vibrato issues as well.

Practice till you really get it down, record it and post it again.

I'm sure it'll sound better. :)

Tone wise, I think it sounds too compressed, I'm not sure whether you switched pickups like Vai does during the reiteration of the theme in the "2nd verse", it sounds flat through out. Might want to do some tweaking there.

Thanks for sharing man, it takes a lot of courage to attempt a song like this! 8)

didn't recorded fully eh? i say .. brave attempt.. good try.. but yea.. some parts never wham properly.. timing issues.. harmonics at the wrong parts.. haha.. but nevertheless good try yea.. i believe you can do it with much more practice and viewing his videos and listening out. haha.. v tedious though..

tone wise..nice sustain..but the vai tone is much smoother, thicker and has that vibe of echo.. haha..

not bad for a preset!

Frankly speaking dude just like you stated you were letting us hear your tone and not the playing. And according to that, the tone is great in my opinion :)
Otherwise, it's a courageous attempt.
