Maybe the D'Addario's I got was a lemon? Bought it from Yamaha, and rusted in a day :/
how do we know the dealer does not buy online?

Yes Fenders are easy to fake because of all the after market parts. For faking a CS Fender, the easiest route is to buy a good quality Squire, replace the decal, neck plate, print a fake COA, stamp in a fake serial number on the neck plate & provide a nice Fender Tweed Case.

The Classic Vibe series is seriously very well made for a Squire. the finish the set up everything.
However, the moment the consumer ask's you to open it up.... boomz, you've lost.
If we view the average consumer as a "Sotong", we are in business .
In any case selling fake stuff and passing it off as the real deal is outright cheating but selling fake stuff and telling your consumers that it's a fake is not considered cheating at all. In such a scenario, I think only the suppliers would get into trouble.
