Footswitch with Delay??

Hey fellow softies, I need some help here.

I'm getting a Modtone vintage analog delay but it doesn't come with a tap tempo. Reason for not buying Boss DD7 is because its too pricey for me now. So i'm either going to buy Boss FS 5U or diy a footswitch pedal on my own. But the thing is I see that other delay pedals like Boss DD7 have an INPUT Jack, DIRECT OUTPUT Jack, MAIN OUTPUT Jack whereas Modtone Delay only has the INPUT and OUTPUT jack which I assume I then can't connect a footswitch pedal anymore? I've been searching for help online the whole night but I can't seem to find any help. If you guys know how I can go about adding a footswitch, please help me, I really appreciate your help! Also, can anyone teach me how to use a tap tempo as well, how it works as well. As Im not too familiar with using one. Thanks alot :)

How about the Behringer DD-400? It has Tap Tempo and it's cheap. It's a copy of the DD-7 and has sort of the same functions. If you really are tight on your budget, go for behringer. I think they make pretty good stuff. The plastic casing also pretty good. Don't see any reason for people to complain about it

Honestly speaking, I would forgo the Modtone and get a Memory Boy Deluxe, if the main criteria is to have a tap tempo. It has a tap tempo built-in and chances are that it would cheaper than getting the Modtone modded and buying a tap tempo footswitch. Of course, that's assuming the Modtone's circuit can be modded in the first place to accept a tap tempo.

Yeah, adding a tap tempo is not a trivial thing, not just poking a hole in any delay you want.

If you need a cheap delay with tap tempo, your best choices are a Line 6 Echo Park or Digitech Digidelay. Neither support external tap tempo, unfortunately.

nope

it's not something you can just add on

i suggest looking for a used DD7, Line 6 Echo Park, Deluxe Memory Boy , etc..

Yup you've answered your own question.

Modding to add an internal or even external tap tempo is pretty heavy work. There might not even be space in the chassis, or it might be even more than just getting the DD7+external tap tempo.

Tap tempo is as it's named - you tap the beat on the switch and it matches the delay to the tempo that you tap. Some pedals have extra settings, letting you get a rate half/twice/three/four times as fast as what you tap.

I got my Memory Boy Deluxe for $215 during TYMC's Christmas sale. Expect pay approx 240-250 there or upwards of $300 at other shops?

I liked it a lot but would strongly discourage someone new to delays from getting it. It's a very temperamental analog delay with quirky modulation features. Just go with a decent digital delay like the Echo Park, Digitech Digidelay, Digitech Hardwire DL-8, Boss DD-5, DD-7.
