Follow up to my earlier question...

Okay guys, thanks so much for all your inputs in my earlier thread...which is still on-going! You guys have been really helpful. With all your suggestions and thoughts, I finally made my way down to Funan yesterday and bought myself an iMac! It's the lowest end which is running at 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 320 Gb of HD space and I managed to get them to upgrade my RAM to 4Gb FOC. I also bought 1Tb external HD to back up and save my projects.

However, I do have a question that needs shedding light on. Because the iMac already comes with GarageBand, I am not too sure if I should install Ableton Live Lite that came with my Line 6 Pod Studio KB 37. Is it advisable to have two DAWs on the iMac? Or will it cause any software conflict?

Also...err...paiseh. Kinda hit a snag on using Reason. Though I was able to use most of the software, I'm stuck on how to use Redrum. It's registering that I'm hitting the MIDI controller but no sound is coming out. I tried adjusting the level volume etc, but nothing. I think I'm missing a step somewhere. Can anyone tell me why? Thanks guys!

Congrats on your purchase!

Installing more than 1 DAW is fine. In fact, if you ahve Reason, you can try rewiring it to your other music software as an instrument.

As for your ReDrum problems, have you set your audio preferences correctly? Are the other instruments like Thor registering any output?

Yep, everything else is working fine. The synth sounds, piano, arpeggio effect thingie, the loopers are all working fine, but when it comes to ReDrum, the display registers the fact that I am hitting my MIDI controller but no sound is coming out...

redrum

Checked the mixer level? master level on redrum?

Is it hooked up to the channel inputs on the 14:2 reason mixer?
Click Tab and see the "back side" whether they are.
And see if the mixer outputs are connected to the system audio out.

sounds like the patches are not there, try reinstalling Reason (Is it Reason 3 or 4?)
There is a drop down menu for all the channels to patch different samples to them.
Click that and see where it goes.
It should go to your sound banks.

If all else fails you can get registered user help from propellerheads, they respond really fast, within a day or two.

Good luck

Thanks for your help guys! Actually, I just figured it out...silly me. Because the Line 6 KB37 MIDI controller by default shows the middle octave ranges of a full-length keyboard, I had to go one octave down before I could trigger the drum sounds with the keys! Stupid me.

But I appreciate all your suggestions nonetheless. :)

Hey, congrats on your new purchase! :D
No, you'll have no problem with 2 (or more) DAWS in the Mac.. I myself have Garageband '06, Abletone Live 5 and Reaper in both my MacBook Pro and Sawtooth G4 and they've been behaving well for so long.. ;)

I have 2 questions for you though:
- How's the new Garageband '09? I know the interface is revamped and looks better. It reminds me of IK Multimedia's Amplitube now.. The amps and stompboxes sounds any good?
- I noticed that you're using the new Line6 Studio KB37. How's the Pod Farm? I'm using the older version interface and it comes with the Gearbox. Just would like to know how they compared before i decide to upgrade..

Thnks in advance..

You need to go to the Audio Midi something something in utilities folder. Than you assign an ID for you Midi controller. Of cos, if there is any driver, pls install it. If you using an midi cable connection, make sure the midi device is shown. Add addition device and assign the ID of you midi controller.

If you need to work with more than one audio interface, you need to create aggregated device.

It is not so friendly, unless you have many interface you want to use.
