im using an ibanez rg now and i have problems with the floating bridge..
each time when i do something like a bad horsie kinda thing with the whammy bar, it will go out of tune..
and my bandmates would look at me and wonder what happened when we jam..

how do i ensure my strings dont go out of tune?
im using a gauge 10 and ive added one extra spring at the back..
so, im using four springs at the back now..
ive made sure i lock the nut already..
how??

im having this problem with my fender too actually..
when i play around with the bar, it will also go out of tune..

and your locking nut too, it could be the springs as well.

1, stretch your strings, then retune.
2, lock properly.
3, i don't know if that extra spring reeally helps.
4, get it set up. :]

Did you blunt your floyd rose's knife edge?

Check if the string retaining bar is low enough or not. If it is not low enough your strings will be out of tune when you lock the nut.

Of course... apply some graphite lubricants on the bridge studs where it contacts with the knife edge.. this will most definitely help

graphite lubricant and edge knife?

can u link me a video or something to fix this thing?
ive been using fender all my life and im not too familiar with a floyd rose..
and yeah,whats graphite lubricant?
never used it before..
where do i get it?

which Ibanez RG model are you using?

if the bridge is not an Edge, Edge Pro, Lo Pro, Zero or Edge Zero, chances are it would not get back in tune after doing some mad whammy-ing. for a fact, they are not as stable as you think they are. there are good and poor quality FR bridges.

if you are using an Ibanez 3XX series, chances are it sports an Edge III bridge which is not so bad. it can do some decent whammy-ing stuff. just not those crazy ones.

bro, dyou mean the Edge III's better than the edge pros and edge zeros? D:
i beg to differ. :/

no tairaa, he meant that edge pro, edge low pro, edge zeros are all much better than edge 3

edge 3 is totally an entry level floating bridge

did you read my post properly or not -.^ ?

in simple terms, Edge, lo-pro and edge pro are the well made trems. no comments about the edge zero since I've not tried one yet.

the edge III is better as compared to the lo trs, that is for sure.

eeks, sorry, my bad :X

I noticed that.. usually. After abusing the floyd rose (bad horsie style), Usually, when it goes out of tune.. It's usually because the strings are not stretched. I used the Ibanez IlT1 bridge and had no problems with it going out of tune after a whammy abuse. A few stuff to look out for, make sure locking nuts are locked (not over locked), strings are properly stretched. One way to do this is to trem it downwards while restringing, than tune to the correct note and repeat again. Do it till the string stays in tune after trem. This will make sure that the strings are properly stretched.

I prefer another way to stretch:

I just tune every string from a semitone up to a tone too high, and leave it this way overnight. This method will stretch both strings and springs at the same time. I find this effective

For me, the only Floyds i will consider using are the Ibanez EDGE and ZR series, due to their outstanding reliability in terms of tuning and maintenance. However, there are good alternatives out there, such as the aforementioned Gotoh FRs and also the Schaller FR, if u can obtain one. Those aren't very common here, if i'm not wrong. I do believe that if ur guitar is an Ibanez, chances are you're using a GXX model, none of which feature EDGE or ZR trems. I'd replace the trem with the Gotoh one if i were u, else ur strings are jus gonna keep going outta tune every time u bad horsie them.

Using original floyd rose and GOTOHs. I don't think it will go out of tune that easily. Unless your faceplate is not parallel to the guitar. I have been really abusing it and seems okay to me.
