Hey, has anyone tried this? Is the feel similar to a normal bass drum? Anyone know where to get the mounting?

16" Gretsch ex-Tom-now-BD

I've got a 16"x16" Gretsch large tom (I think it was a 1960's version), which was converted to bass drum. It was already converted when I bought it in the US. The previous owner had put in a pair of L-shaped legs. So I don't have a mount to raise it higher, which is actually ok for me since I'm not a very tall drummer. I believe Yamaha sells the mounts too.

My Gretsch sounds quite fat, but doesn't have the same projection as a 20" or 22" unless it's mic'd. But I've used it for funk gigs in tight spaces before.

Those who were at the Jazz Workshop at DXS would have seen it. It was originally black, but I had it re-covered in Champagne Sparkle (from DW drums) to match my Ludwig toms & snare, haha, it's a girl thang!
