finishing a maple neck

hi guys,
i just got an awesome guitar from a fellow softie.
it has an unfinished maple neck with rosewood fretboard.... i was thinking of finishing the neck with something other than laquer. probably something which at the same time gives the neck a yellow-ish vintage tint... what do you guys recommend?
