Fingers too short ? Or Action too high

Hi forum , as the title says , im facing a problem when i want to bar the 5th fret of D,G,B and use my pinky finger to fret the 8th fret of high E , i always have the problem of the sound not coming out either from the 8th fret or the 5th bar frets.

I dunno if its the action causing it or its juz me. If the forum suggests that i post up a picture of the action of my guitar then i shall :)

Thanks in Adv :)

if its a classical, the action is naturally high, but nth can be too difficult if the callouses on ur fingers can take it, so practice more
if its an electric, lower the action if its not low enough, but if its already low then maybe u just have to work a lil harder to make it sound right
then again, how long have u been playing? cos theres always the rare case where the frets arent levelled.
(FYI my hands are the smallest a guy's hands can be, so if i can play it, so can you :D)

Mine's acoustic & ive been playing for a few weeks only :)
Haha its juz that small part of the song which is giving me problems..
Hmm i guess ur right , keep practising :)

good luck with that, u could also check out the beginners unite thread and ask a fellow guitarist to watch u play to correct u if ur playing wrongly :D

acoustic is tough only because it sports a thicker set of strings & sport higher action than the average electric guitar. i'd advise beginners to up the electric guitar instead for easier/ faster learning.

does this only happen when you hold a chord & fret the note or does it happen no matter how to fret the note?

if it's the latter, you might have to send your guitar for fret levelling. it's not an uncommon occurance at all. the fret job for some guitars (whether old or not) can be pretty bad.
