Hm, playing that colors of the wind song by Vanessa Williams, lol. Actually did try playing around with the chord shapes but played some open string instead of the actual notes in the chord, and surprisingly, I did manage to get the melody down but it got irritating/frustrating after awhile -_-

Hmm, that's a beautiful song. It's good that you realise that you can actually do what you want with fingerstyle and still accomplish your task - which in this case seems to be a backup instrument. Lots of options out there - in those 10 fingers and six strings.

And open strings just have a way of sounding great when accompanied with fretted notes.
