Finger dexterity

No need all that. Just:

5-6-7-8-7-6-*

And lift each finger before the next goes down (yes, use all fours, though you can add a thumb on the top most string if you're up to it). All strings, repeat as many times, and speed up as and when comfortable.

patience and practice

Any pro can suggest practices that can help me improve my finger dexterity and speed? THANKS =)

hey there

unfortunately no miracle solutions i'm afraid... practice and practice and practice... scales and stretching exercises... slowly then faster...

not that playing or even liking his style is required but the john petrucci rock discipline video released back in the days contained a lot of good exercises that you might want to give a try...

it's on google video:

good luck!

Chromatics, chromatics, chromatics.

As many hours you can a day. A break every hour.

Tapping foot or best, metronome.

Alternate picking with economy picking.

Start with a up, then start with a down.

Bottom of neck to the top, then top to the bottom. Start with a downstroke, then after thats done, do it with an upstroke.

All the finger patterns you can think off.

Go.

Hey sorry for being a noob but whats chromatic?

Thanks:)

chromatics is the next note like tat..
for example u start at the low E string the 1st note F
ur next fnger shld press the next fret F#
and next is G and next is G#

something like tat...

If spider walk you mean the 1-3-2-4 thingy then yeah its a very good way of training your fingers . Do the other way round too, I feel that this is much more efficient than doing chromatics.

yup, and after that, do the more advanced spider walk thingy, which involves moving the index and ring finger tgt down the fretboard, followed by the middle and pinky.

sorry i cant describe it well

yup i was taught to walk 2 alternate fingers (index & ring then middle and pinky) at a time too to really improve dexterity, it's really tough at first but you'll definitely notice the increase in speed as you practice.

sir what you should do is first to have a metronome the reason is that you will be able to play in time rather than aimlessly alternate picking.
Your exercise should include two parts one is short burst and the other is endurance very similar like running.
For the endurance set a tempo that you are comfortable with eg:140 bpm
play 3 notes per click for a targeted amount of time lets say 2mins and you dont stop playing during that two mins. What should you play is basically anything but i would recommend 3 notes per string scale.MAKE SURE YOU ASCEND THE FIRST NOTE OF THE BEAT:)reason is because you will be sure that you are at the correct tempo.

After the endurance rest for about a min and then do the short burst which means that you increase the tempo but you play for a shorter period of time unlike the endurance.

Increase both the endurance and short burst gradually but one thing that you should never do is to sacrifice your clarity of note for higher speed a good guitarist is the one that dont cheat when playing:)

The other exercise that you can do is trill which is playing hammer ons and pull off one after the other. For example play the a note on the 1 string and then hammer on the c note on the first string and then pull off back to a .Repeat it continuously until you left hand finger is very weak and cannot do it anymore repeat exercise for other left hand fingers.

I think that this are some of the ways that i train but the most important thing is never sacrifice clarity for speed.

I hope you gain something from this......:)

chao.....

I can't visualize that. Erm, any other ways of explaining how is it done?
