Fender Strat price

Would you pay $4.3k for 1977 CBS era Fender Strat and $1600 for 1996 Fender American Standard Strat?

Well, I can't judge people who posts their guitar in high prices (relatively in my standards), but for me I'll rather prefer MBS or CS for that money. Not only because I am not a fan of old fender, but also because buying an old guitar is one hell of a lottery. As far as I know CBS era strats has a problem in consistency. Some of their are great but some of are not. 1.6k for 96' strat....hmm...I guess it was a great treasure for him and well taken care of. For me, I won't take a chance to buy a high risk guitar with too much money, but who knows? There are so many rich people here in Singapore. (I wish I am one of them :D)

Maybe we might want to consider the type of buyer here. Is the buyer a guitar player or guitar collector?

I sold a guitar to a guitar collector once. He showed me his collection, great stuff! But he doesnt play guitar at all. I even sold a boss psm5 to a pedal collector once. When i asked him how is he going to use that pedal (cause i have no idea, someone gave me that pedal), he told me he dont play guitar, just buying for collection of boss pedals.

So in that case if the buyer is a collector, i guess playability and "how good the guitar is" like Aria mentioned on the original CBS strat thread would not be relevant. More importantly would be the history and personal value/worth of the guitar.

Bu the way, this is in the wrong section. This should be moved to the gear-guitar section.

I think price matters are always subjective.
sellers can price their gear however high they wish. they will be at the losing end if their gear is not sold cause it's overpriced. It's still ultimately their prerogative. Buyers have a choice to not buy as well.

people are well informed nowadays with just some quick searches for rough price guides.

I done several deals with DeNNn on a few occasions and i do not have any complaints about the guy. Nice down to earth guy with some great gear.

DeNNn was nice enough to show me that particular 77 strat when i was at his place before closing a deal for another guitar just last week. It was in immaculate condition and everything was in tact. original case candies, paperwork and all.. you don't see much vintage gear in that kind of condition these days.

@aria: Seems like you have some kind of unresolved issues with DeNNn. Whatever it is, replying to his ads which sarcastic remarks isn't cool. If you do have issues with him, please PM the guy to resolve it privately. if he is flaunting any forum rules, please click on the report button to report him.

Anyway chill guys...
We need more gear and less squabbles...

it's personal preference I guess.

People would buy because they can afford it and they want to.
Me, I would not pay more than 1.5k for a guitar though I can buy. :)

as for that 77 strat, the one thing that really hit me besides the great condition was with that rosewood fretboard. it had that smoothness found from an ebony fretboard with almost very little grain marks you would find on most rosewood fretboards. I have never seen something like that before. maybe i need to get around more...

as for his standard start, it's sonic blue finished and aged very nicely to almost sea foam green. also very minimum wear. He told me the story behind the standard strat and it does have some sentimental value to him. I'll leave that for him to tell the tale if any of you guys have a chance to see the guitar personally.

Well, i'm not good friends with DeNNn nor fluffing up his gear. I'm just sharing what i have seen about these 2 guitars personally mentioned by TS from a deal i made last week with DeNNn.

Would i pay $4.3k for that 77 strat? -- YES I would if i could afford it.
Would i pay $1.6k for that standard? -- Tough one but Nope.. if price is neg and i lowball him maybe can discuss further.. lol
:)
