Feedback on acrylic snare drums

heys guys i was looking around in the web and stumble across a acrylic drum by PDP the sx series tell me what u think abt it. i mean what kind of sound wld it normally produce? thin sound? fat sound bright or mellow? iam looking at the 7x14 black mud with 8 lugs

hmmm...i might be wrong but i believe fatness and brightness would be derived from the type of head/s you choose. and the tuning of course.

but i've read a fair number of reviews for acrylics - apparently, they are LOUD.

as such, there's probably a limit to how mellow you can get it to sound even if u tweaked the skin. if u're prepared for loudness, then i'd say try to research more on the skins then.

In my opinion, head choices, tuning, the dimensions and bearing edges have can more effect on the eventual sound of a snare drum, than shell material.

7" depth will get you a fat sound alright.

Disclaimer: I've only played with maple, birch, oak, steel, brass, steel, alu.
