Fast Palm Muting

How do i do fast palm muting? Like the following:

Do you use both up and downstrokes? Mine seem uneven, sounds wierd. Btw the above is from the start of Sonata Arctica's song Blank File.

the riff in blank file is pretty fast.....so you'll have to alternate your strokes while palm muting at least that's what i do. hope that helps

i dont think its possible to achieve that kind of speed by solely downpicking, not in this song anyway

yeah for metallica...its that old school downpick chugging....on this song its around 130-140 with 16th notes

I tried alt picking but the chugging sounds uneven leh... At wat angle do i let the pick hit the strings? Do I make the pick go up and down the strings or in a circular motion?

itz basically a fast alt pick just tht itz a riff not a solo. most power metal songs have those..u just gotta practice more n soon u'll notice itz smooth-sailing. U can do downstrokes if ye think the speed is alrite for u..bt if itz 16th note above 150bpm u gotta alt. Or press alt+shift :roll:
