Does anybody think $118 is too much for installation of 2 EMG's (not including purchase), adjusting of the truss rod and a string change?

My friend got charged that. And not to mention $20 for a pack of strings which cost $18.

But seriously. Isn't it a little exorbitant? Plus, the pickups were purcahsed outside, so all the shop had to do was install them, adjust the truss rods, restring the instrument, and we're done.

What is done is done. Your friend had needed the thing done then, and he should have gotten the quote and had agreed, rite??

If your friend had agreed on the quoted job, then there is no question on whether the charges is exhorbitant. He needed something, and he got it done and paid the price agreed, so end of story.

STORY:
It's like I am in terrible tooth pain on a late Sat afternoon and it's almost unbearable. All the neighbourhood dental clinics are closed and only the private hospital clinc is open. I needed it done badly, so the dentist fixed it up for me within 15 mins and I got charged S$400 for it. The nurse tried to further sales talk me to follow up treatment at about $280 per treatment (OR ELSE I WILL LOOSE SOME OF MY IMPORTANT MOLARS SOON).
That was like 5yrs ago, and I haven't lost any molar since. Also I did not return for follow on treatment either. Because I know if I go to neighbourhood dentist the cost is definately less than half of what I am charged. That's what I CAN afford.
Nevertheless, I am greatful that that episode is over and money was "well" spent. NO GRIPES.

Peace dude 8)

well a set up would cost you ..standard $80 ... some times they wont even adjust your neck for you.

pickup wiring costs extra. esp for active electronics.

Yamaha charged me $50 for everything, including individual coil tapping, and a complete set up, not to mention installation of 3 pickups.

Swee Lee charged my friend $35, with the extra $15 for a priority job for installation of actives, and a complete set up of the guitar.

Active electronics, from experience, especially EMG's are simple to install as they are pre-wired.

If you didn't accept, then it's fine. But I don't think its nice to rat on the shop, since you were never a victim.

Remember, they have their own reason and cost justification to quote you that amount. If you ok, then it's just that, if you not ok and walk away, that's cool too. It's not easy to run a business here, especially on the retail (shopfront) level.

Think and understand other people's shoe, dont be an arsehoal and whine around for nothing.

At the end of the day, you don't gain aanything by the whinings, only bad things, never good. Remember that. Knowledge is good only upon oneself, not everyone will be applied for the same knowledge.

We only do things that have good outcome, then the world can be a better place.

thing is you mentioned adjusting the neck. and changing strings.. sounded like a set up to me...
wiring pickups alone is a diff thing... yea forgot the emgs came pre-wired..

lol.. likedat can't tink of ani other shop tat fits the desc. liao.. hmm.. unless its the shop tat sells the 'water' pedal?

  Hahaha........ I just came up with another theory. Ok, I say huh you don't get angry ok?? Just a theory.

The shop keeper upon chatting up with your friend, summed up that he is just asking around comparing price. So in his eyes, your friend is a bird bird customer, wasting his time. So he just convinenently quote a figure he know will seem exhorbitant to your friend. This is done so that your friend will feel offended and will not come back and disturb him. Better still 'birds of the same feathers flock together', he know your friend sure go around and whine. So he also achieve that the likes of your friend will not come find him either and waste his time. So to him, he has 'killed 2 birds in one stone'.........

How you like my bird bird story??
Hahahahaha..........
