Hello all!
After our meetup last Saturday at Orchard Central, I must say it was indeed a great feeling! I am glad you had enjoyed yourselves.

As it was the first time we are organised it at Orchard Central, we welcome any feedback you may wish to let the organising committee know. I had told them about the camera and keyboard issue already.

This will likely be every Saturday event at Orchard Central basement 2, at 1.00pm in the afternoon.

Great to see that the first session there already had many collaborations and friendships formed. More heartening is to see that there were even musicians selling their own CDs when they were selected to perform on Sunday (finalists from Saturday event)! So if you have your own EP or original songs you wish to share, come on down! It's free to promote yourself as a local artiste in Singapore (not compulsory to be a Singaporean though...music is universal).

It is a simple gathering for musicians and music lovers to network with one another through music. Those selected on Saturday to play on Sundays will be given $100 each as an incentive.

Come on down and play, share your music!

Hi all!
Some great news to share! Hope you will not take this as spamming as I rarely send 3 messages in a short span of a week. =)

I know of two places in need of musicians and thought it would be great to share with you:

1.) Bistro-restaurant (located near Telok Blangah area)

-Need a band (2-3 piece) to play 'lively' music that will make people groove to the beats and tempo. Every Friday 7pm to 10pm. With vocalist is highly preffered.
-Need another different band (2-3 piece) to play 'romantic sexy' music that will make people feel relax and homely. Every Saturday 7pm to 10pm. With vocalist is highly preffered.

2.) Pub Lounge (located around Clarke Quay)


-Open to any good band (2-3 piece). They will want to see past video references and portfolio.


The above are all looking for resident bands on a 1-3 month contract. You need to be presently in Singapore as we will have the auditions with the owners soon next week.

Should you wish to showcase your talent and present yourself (with video shoot), come down 1pm this Saturday (13 Nov) at Orchard Central basement 2. Do let me know about it through email in advance.

hey ya, the bistro-restaurant also needs to vet through the video performance first (on Youtube would be best) ...but if you do not have video, you can come down this Saturday to Orchard Central - basement 2 to showcase your talent...but kindly make known through the email first...thanks!

mostly English acoustic and mainstream music are welcome...just refrain from loud-heavy music like metal and hard rock...it wasn't easy to get a free sponsored venue like Orchard Central to provide us the platform and sound system...hope to seek ur kind understanding...having said tt, in our previous meetups we have musicians who are metal and hard rock lovers...they didn't play 'live' but it was truly heartening to see them come down to network and chat with fellow musicians...great to know one another in an informal session! =)

its so difficult securing free play (mostly elsewhere need bands or musicians to pay) and a platform to perform...hope that Orchard Central will continue giving us this support for local acts...also hope to garner more support from our musicians on the ground who come for this to share their music and also the element of connecting with other musicians during the meetup to network and make friends

i m hearten to see that a simple SG musician meetup held last week had gathered appreciative emails...it is really very heartwarming and i m thankful equally...yes our scene may not be expanded in a way that is big but...its better to have a point to gather

its 11.30am now...gotta go to the gathering in an hour's time...hope to see more of your guys on those Saturdays! cheers!

cyj - wow this is great - kudos and will try to come down for the next meet up - busy today - got 3pm soundcheck but I am really pleased to learn of this movement efforts + that in securing PAYING GIGS for bands as well ...

we do know how super difficult and tough it is for the general mass of musician to get paid gigs...supply is outstripping demand by a great deal...there are definitely those who get paid but how many in terms of percentage do we get that overall...not many

hopefully we can do things small but on the trend of change...seeing how the US and European markets are...we r still much way behind them...

hope that such little gathering will grow for musicians in Singapore...cheers~

You might wonder why this meetup has suddenly become weekly event. This is a short term sponsorship from the shopping mall providing free platform for you guys to perform. Recognized talents will be appreciated with additional showcase (between $100-$300) on Sunday.

I received feedback from 2 musicians that you had some difficulty finding the exact venue. Orchard Central is located near to Somerset MRT. You will be able to find us at basement 2, turn right upon coming down from escalator. When you see the standing speakers and the sound console, yes, just stop by and gather at that area. Ask the DJ for directions! =)


Musicians, bands ...artistes can meet up with the rest and network! Many collaborations and friendships formed. 20th Nov'10 - SG Musicians Meetup at Orchard Central! , scheduled to occur on Saturday, November 20, 2010 1:00 PM has been cancelled.

Reason given by the organiser:
Apologies to all, I just received a last minute notification about this Saturday's meetup. It will be cancelled due to a workshop event that Orchard Central will be holding. It will be halted until further announcement made (I believe they have some Christmas workshop they are organising). I heard it will be for 5-6 weeks.

For those who queried about your auditions (through videos sent to me), I had already forwarded to the respective bistro/pub managers for review. Additionally, there's one more outlet at Serangoon Gardens that is looking for pop rock bands too (2-3 piece), every Friday 9.30pm to 12.30am. I will forward the emails (portfolio and video references) I received so far to the Serangoon Gardens outlet too.

we might not continue with Orchard Central but there are currently 2 other sponsors which we are evaluating to come into place...they each have their pros and cons...both will want to start in February but we are likely to choose one only

Hi all!

Our last meetup was last year in November'10 which was held at Orchard Central, I must say it's been 3 long months since we last had this musician meetup! Thanks for the many messages sent and we have now found a new venue sponsor.

This time round it will be hold in a cosy bar pub lounge at Clarke Quay area. It is an acoustic setup and you will be able to freely perform, showcase your talent on a mini stage (it is really small, no stage fright yea). Do bring your own guitars, keyboards and other instruments you might have. Here are some of the features and lineup:

7.15pm - 7.30pm

* This is free, no charges involved

7.30pm - 8.00pm

* Say "Hello!" to one another. Mingling session, get to know each other on the ground and make friends. You can interact and possibly even find like-minded music friends to jam together. Time to socialise!

8.00pm - 9.30pm

* Music sharing session time. Each group or individual will be allowed to perform 3 songs in this first round.
* Here are some special incentives for those who wish to perform:

+ I will encourage you to dress well if you like us to help you take a video. It will be a free portfolio for your future usage to showcase for other events or performance opportunities.
+ As a talent scout for music performers, you will be featured in this NEW segment under "Featured Musician" on http://www.expressinmusic.com/home/musicianprofile.aspx. You will get the chance to be marketed for opportunities in the music event gig arena. I just set this page up, more will be coming up within the next 3 weeks.
+ A surprise prize money $ will be awarded to 1-3 musicians who perform either exceptionally well or simply bring in friends/fans to rally like a concert. The cash prize is awarded on the spot.

9.30pm - 10.30pm

* Contractual paid performance. Our friends at the Players Bar have agreed to give this performance showcase an added value. Besides him, there will be another fellow entertainment outlet manager who will scout for good musicians, excellent performers. Based on your performance in the 8.00pm-9.30pm slot, if you are chosen to perform between 9.30pm-10.30pm, you may be considered for a paid 'live' gig on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
* Alternatively, between this slot, we will also like to encourage a merge of friendship among the attendees. Jam together on stage, perform with strangers (after that you will be friends). This could be really interesting!



I been there twice only. The venue is not very big (but really cosy with nice ambience!), therefore there is limited space for RSVP. Once the RSVP numbers are reached, we will cease registration. As it is with courtesy of getting the venue sponsor at a pub to open up the space to us, if you can kindly show your appreciation by getting at least a drink, this will be a nice gesture too.

If you have your own EP or CD or original songs to market, feel free to share! It is a simple gathering for musicians and music lovers to network with one another through music.
