Every $1 you donated to NKF, only $0.10 became real aid...

I didn't know the mediacorp artises were paid.. quite disappointed here.
And 0.10 out of 1.00 donated is simply too little

Pier.

the NKF charity was made an important annual event,
guess that was what happened behind the scene.
rather disappointing ... ...

"Humpty dumpty sat on a wall
Humpty dumpty had a great fall
All the King's horses
And all the King's men
Couldn't put Humpty together again"

I want to see -
Humpty Dumpty behind bars so that he won't fall again.
All the eggs broken returned.
All the King's men responsible to answer for oversight
The King's men to guarantee return of the other 90 cents to every dollar collected by Humpty Dumpty.
Put all the 'Bo Geh' watchdogs; all those toothless and blind to sleep.

well Shawn, this is the 'kopi-tiam' forum which is where everyone basically gossips
the other forums are music, if you'd look around you'll see

hifi_ : pai seh.. it's actually a scrshot from TV Tuner card, but it's not done by me...

read the whole thread, people. :D

and yep. it's actually the case for most charities. even Community Chest will take a nice big cut before they pass it on to their beneficiaries. the people running it do have to eat. and things will be harder for them after the Durai fiasco.

actually i'm more curious to what took them so long to discover this thing?
what are the auditors doing throughout every audit? at least once a year.

if durai gets such high pay, what about the rest? dun tell me the other board members dun know he is getting such pay and they are bound to "ok lah u take i also take loh, u dun bao toh me, i dun bao toh you"

who approved all the expenses?

and what the hell is all the top line management team doing?

simple truth: they made durai the scapegoat to protect those of higher status involved eg. the one who said 600k was peanuts.

Hmm why not look at it this way.
you don't get anything out of doing charity which can fill your ricebowl. at most u feel good about yourself and then u go to heaven.

men are born selfish. If you want us to donate abit like 10 dollars or so we are more than willing to do it. but if u want us to put in all our time and effort without even gaining anything back in return, no one would do it. that's why high pay is offered to attract people to do this job.

this is just a viewpoint, not that i support durai or anything

that's not the pt. The point is that, the board and the CEO were not transparent, mis-represented, and flat-out LIED about certain things.

Again, read today's ST for all the scandalous details.

i agree that you should pay your directors high. However do note a few things:

- Many of the old board were directors of other companies.
- They had contracts with their own companies and that is strictly not allowed unless it is declared.
- They misused funds.

And on top of that, they had many promotions and raises. In this case, the old board has already overextended what their powers should have given them.

And even if they were underpaid, they could have resigned from the board. There's no need to work for an underpaying company if that was the case.

Hence, the viewpoint that they should be paid well should not apply to them.

Anyone wanna share what's your commitment like, towards the NKF fund since it began? For me, i only donated during the fund-raising shows, not more than $10 each year... So i guess only $5 from my pocket reached the needy for the past 5 years...

I never donated a single cent to NKF, even during the primary school NKF card thing program. I figured if NKF can afford to con young kids into collecting cash for them in exchange to dumb gifts like notebooks and whatnot, then they're just trying to exploit a portion of the community into cajoling others to keep the money pouring in. Also I could buy 10 of those gifts with the same money I would have had to donate

Hi,
I still believe that for all those kind individuals who donated to NKF, donated to the patients, out of compassion and mercy.
It is sad that such disgrace has happened, but perhaps we should keep in mind that the patients still require and need our support in the future and we should not avoid charities.

I think that on the whole Singaporeans are a pretty compassionate bunch of pple, so it's really quite a shame something like this happens. I think it'll take at least 2 years for charitiy organisations on the whole to win back the trust of the public.

Pier.
