I'm having problems with my TF! On many occasions, when i power up my TF, the parameters on the screen keeps jumping and i am unable to control the parameters. Usually what i do to solve this is to just reset the TF back to factory settings, and it would go back to working normally. However, i can't be doing this all the time!

After some research online, i found out it could be due to 2 reasons:

1. The ribbon cable in the TF is dirty/ loose/ etc
2. I'm not feeding it enough power (I'm powering it up with just output 6 of a voodoo lab pp2+, with the switch set away from normal)

Did anybody encounter this problem? Any advice on how to deal with this?

Thanks!

Yes!

Usually is the ribbon cable coming loose.

1) What you basically need to do is take the damn thing apart (and mind you this is no easy task), and nudge the ribbon to sit proper on it's connection.

2) If you are using just out-put 6 on your pp2+, the unit is definitely under powered. You need to get a current doubler cable: http://www.voodoolab.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=2784
Only the combined current of output 5 & 6 will power you TF adequately.

SO before you try option one and PRY open your TF (lol) try out my suggestion in option two =)

Oh yes, when you combine output 5 & 6 to double the current, rmb to keep the switches on NORMAL.

You just need doubled CURRENT, not VOLTAGE (a bit of secondary school physics here).

hey yeah thank you so much! i'll go back and try and then post the results again! pretty troublesome to do so kinda dreading it haha!

Anyway, aren't the switches supposed to be set AWAY from normal? That's what it says in the voodoo labs webbie

Eventide Pedals
You can power an Eventide Stompbox, like TimeFactor or PitchFactor, using a special “current doubling” cable. This is a parallel Y-cable used to combine both outputs 5 and 6 to double the available current. Set switches 5 and 6 both away from NORMAL and use a current doubler adapter (not included) with the red 5.5 x 2.5mm barrel cable.

Also, what are current doubler cables? Is the normal godlyke y-split cable considered?

Thanks once again!

sorry! my bad dude.. yes the switches SHOULD BE AWAY FROM NORMAL.

I'm not sure how the Y cable from Godlyke works. Does the cabling there run in parallel or series?

You will need it to run parallel so that the current at the pedal end is that of 5+6..

yeah its in parallel, so should be fine to use.

anyway i really think its the ribbon cable that has gotten lose. any steps/ tips on opening up the TF? is it through the few screws at the top?

The bottom, bro.

But be patient when you doing it okay? When you take out the bottom plate, there are actually several layers of disassembly and shielding material before you can get to the ribbon.

When I had my TF going bonkers, I took it to a particular shop to have it taken apart - better tools, better hands than mine for sure.

PM me and I'll share details ;)
