“Very tasty and delicate. Embedded in Ralf Schmid’s colourful and transparent arrangements, Paula Morelenbaum celebrates the essential lightness of Bossa Nova.”

“A masterpiece.”

The Bossarenova Trio—Paula Morelenbaum (vocals), Joo Kraus (trumpet and spoken word) and Ralf Schmid (piano and electronics)—came together in 2009 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the birth of bossa nova with the album Bossarenova.
Paula Morelenbaum, the sweet melancholic voice of the Trio, is considered to be the grande dame of bossa nova and a radiant star in the firmament of world music. She achieved her status as an icon after touring the world with Antonio Carlos Jobim´s band, the legendary Quarteto Jobim-Morelenbaum, and as part the trio Morelenbaum²/Sakamoto. The other two members are truly exceptional musicians as well—pianist Ralf Schmid having worked with Herbie Hancock and Ray Anderson and Joo Kraus being one of the best European trumpet players.
Recorded with the SWR Big Band and released in 2010, Bossarenova approached bossa nova with the aim to whisk away the cobwebs from the genre and restore what is worth preserving, using an inquisitive eye to unearth compositions that are inseparably linked to the success story of bossa nova. The album contains timeless bossa nova pieces by Antonio Carlos Jobim and Jorge Benjor, together with renditions of classics by Robert Schumann, Heitor Villa-Lobos and The Beatles. The album saw great success in Europe and Brazil, the home of bossa nova, and the Trio performed with the SWR Big Band in festivals in Germany and Switzerland, and on a tour of the United States in 2011.
Expect nothing but the best of bossa nova with The Bossarenova Trio and their repertoire of playful and inventive songs and arrangements.
