Ernie Ball Musicman and Sterling guitars/bass appreciation thread!

There was a similar thread to this that started a couple of years ago by whitestrat if I'm not mistaken, but slowly the thread phased out.

So....

I'm reviving the thread!

The main aim of this thread is just for owners of EBMM and Sterling guitars to post pictures of their guitars/basses and to let the rest of us know in what context do you use the guitar/bass! (and also for us to ogle at them as well!)

I'll get pics up soon, but now my main workhorse is a Sterling Silo 30, pickups changed to Suhr SSH+ and FL(bridge and neck) Stan Hinesley Karma in the middle. Ordering a EBMM JP7 in MYSTIC DREAM which will probably arrive in dec or jan. Looks somewhat like this:

Wahhaha finally a thread revival for EBMM! Wah JCustom, I must say the mystic dream finish never fails to amaze me no matter how many times I have seen it. I will post some pics of my JP6 Fully Looaded in Pearl Red Burst soon, once I get get a great shot that will show the nice deep redish maroon hue of the guitar. Man it is really tough to capture the full glory of the finish!!

Can't wait to see the axes that our local EBMM lovers possess, any new purchases from the usual EBMM suspects?

I must really extend my gratitude to the elders of the previous thread that has convinced me to take a dive into the EBMM stuff, and I am totally sold! Hmmmm planning to get one more with a fixed bridge, but currently torn between a ASS and SMY2D........

haha actually that guitar in that photo was just random photo I grabbed off the net. Going to ask Brendon to bring in one for me, waiting for reply on the quotation.

The one EBMM I want to try is the Gamechanger/reflex though. Imagine the endless sonic possibilities! Insane!

I have never tried the Axis, don't mind trying one with the fixed bridge, like the one Alex Hutching uses. Does it have an assymetrical neck like the Sterling Axis models?

Wow! EBMM lovers unite!

I think I'm the one who started that thread.. Did I??

Anyway, still have my Y2D, AL SSS, Silo Spec 07 Blue Dawn, Silo Spec Autumn Redburst, 25th Anniv RW #24/25...

mORE Pics from other owners!!!!

Glad to see you back! haha, post some pictures please! I'll try to upload some photos tonight. Which one's the Y2D?

Naise. hahaha fixed or with FR? hhaha it sounds quite wrong when you say you first ball. So when did you get your second? or did it grow? HAHAHAH

Hi Ripper, I see that you have a maple board Albert Lee SSS. I just wanna know how do you keep the maple nice and clean? I read some rather interesting way of cleaning methods on the musicman forum but i wonder whether their recommendations really works....

Bukka, if you see closer, the maple board is not exactly that clean. Unfinished fretboard will get dirty no matter how hard you try to keep it clean. I used to use cotton wool and acetone to clean it but have refrained from doing so, as I afraid that the acetone will seep into the fret slot and disintegrate the fret glue. A safer way is to gently rub the fretboard with 0000 grade steel wool when you change strings. But rule of thumb is to keep hand clean before playing. If you really concern bout a clean board, avoid getting a maple board guitar - which explained for all my other balls. Dont worry about non-maple board guitars not giving u a bright tone, my other rswd silo spec and even the 25th all rswd neck sound bright if I want to.

But u have to admit that the AL looks cool in maple...

The blue dawn silo spec received a pickguard change, to a black pearl one. The switching option is very very nice. Similar to your white sterling (is it?) if i'm not wrong. Initially I wanted the SSS pickguard assembly of the autumn redburst to go into the blue dawn, but the color combo of the AR made it so irresistable for a SSS setup - blues & funk utility.

Btw, the sparkle on the blue dawn is subtle, but totally fits the blue dawn label as it looks like a starry night. The autumn redburst looks like a crushed gem.

Very nice guitar guys!

Here's mine. Picture is old, I swapped the pickups to a crunchlab and liquifire.

Hoping to sell this and upgrade to a JP6 or a Luke by the end of this year!

I dont know whats the switching option of a HSS strat. But on the HSS Silo, from neck to bridge, its:

1-neck single (with silent circuit for noiseless operation), 2-neck & middle, 3-neck & humb(single coil closer to neck), 4-middle & humb(single coil closer to bridge), 5-humb

Position 3 and 4 is rather unusual, as compared to a hss strat, correct me if i'm wrong.

hmm yup it is different. 2 is usually neck and mid, 3 mid, 4 mid and bridge. I find that the stock sterling bridge is quite stiff, have to use more strength than normal to even just do a very slight vibrato with the whammy bar, any recommendations for replacements? I only have a wilki bridge in mind right now

u may wanna "upgrade" your sterling into ebmm spec. change the pivkups, pickguard, and look out for a silent circuit. dont bother bout the bridge - just unscrew the backplate n loosen the trem spring, by unscrewing the screw for the trem claw. if u are having 4 or 5 springs, thats way too much tension for a .9 setup. 3 springs the way to go.

Know where I can get the silent circuit? Pickups upgraded:) but not exactly to ebmm spec, Suhr FL in neck, SSH+ in bridge. Stan Hinesley karma in the middle. Excellent position 2 tone. very nice for funky stuff, chords but works well for single not stuff too!

Yup I have 3 springs in the back. Setup for .10s. Idk, there's just too much tension in the springs! can't even do subtle vibrato stuff:( how? Asking Brendon to send it to Malcolm for a setup, wanna try the Carl Verheyen setup for the bridge.
