old thread :s . in any case, I agree with you. you get what you pay for indeed. when it comes to budget instruments, I feel QC is more important compared to tone. a Gibson Les Paul Standard is constructed differently from an Epiphone Les Paul Standard so we must understand that throwing in Gibson pickups in an Epiphone would not make it sound like a Gibson with the same configuration. What I'm trying to say is, since we can't get the best tones out of a budget guitar, why not settle for something that feels comfortable to play instead? at least you won't feel like putting your guitar down.
