Hi guys,

I am wondering what do you know of if I change my pickups for my epiphone sg deluxe for emg pickups. So far I don't really see much of this modification, so I am wondering if there is any bad point to it. The reason to this is that I am looking for a heavier sound. So if you have any other recommendation for any other pickups, do let me know too. Need some advice to this.

Thanks a lot

Bad point requires batteries. Depending on tastes cleans may not sound as nice. Don't lose the stock pickups, easier if u still wts/t your guitar later.

Most important is what amp or effects are u going through. My epi g400 custom with the stock epi alnico classics does the metal sound with decent results. Although not the best but it still works.

For non active pups:
dimarzio dactivator, gibsom iommi set, duncan invaders, duncan jb or duncan distortion

Shameless plug:
I happen to be selling an emg 81/85set, free 60!at this point of time. Contact me fast as im already negotiating with someone else.

I think it's gonna be expensive if you want to modify your guitar from passive pickups to active pickups (EMGs). Routing has to be done for the 9V battery compartment and the wiring also needs to be changed I think.

How about sticking with passives? There are plenty of high-output passives that you could turn to from brands like Tesla, Seymour Duncan, Dimarzio, etc.

Agree with Shioks76, especially on this part. "Most important is what amp or effects are u going through."

Pickups do play a part, that is an established fact. But pedals and amps make a much more drastic change to the sound than pickups do. I'm using stock Ibanez moderate-output pickups and they're really heavy for distortion too. Can really get the metal chug...with my rig. :)
