i am thinking of buying either one of these epiphones.I am wondering which sounds better as i play rock, alternative music.Tell me what you think.I saw the guitars at swee lee.
You should have tried the guitars, it would give you a better idea. For me, the SG is great with gain. But if you like nice mellow tones when playing, the LP would work. If you plan to change the pups, then it doesn't matter.
SG, however, has a neck dive that might take quite some time to get used to.
Some things about the Epiphone Les Paul Special that might help.
Do take note that the Epiphone Les Paul Special is unlike the ordinary Les Paul Standard/Custom as it has a slimmer body and is lighter in weight. You will not get the same sustain and feel as a normal one would offer.
Another thing to note, the Special model has dotted inlays, instead of block inlays and has only two knobs; one for volume and one for tone.
But no doubt they provide quite a great sound at less than half the price of a Les Paul Standard.
i'd say save up abit more and get a better model like the les paul standard or the G-400. Spend abit more now, then keep adding on. Unless you are really urgent to get a guitar now then its up to you to choose, but im leaning towards the sg
yeah man the sg's have abit of a neck-dive problem... but it can be fixed with abit of tender loving care! haha seriously its a small problem only. dont worry bout it. my first guitar was a Epiphone SG Special too. after i'd played around wif it for a year, i went mod-crazy haha. like orange drops, push-pull, change pups, change bridge, refret, and i even scalloped the last 4 frets lol. as you can see, i'm abit biased towards the SG. haha
I have a les paul special II and i think it works well definetly bang for your buck. al tho only 1 tone 1 vol..like what the prev guy said.. and the pickups are ''naked'' unlike the standards
I'm not sure about the SG tho
yeah save up for an epi g400, much better deal, i've got em for quite long already, worth the buy, but ultimately you should choose one thats suits you best
Yeah, in a way, the Epiphone Les Paul Standard's stock pickup is not the best sounding, but still delivers, sustain-wise. Which i believe the weight of the Les Paul Standard plays a part too.
How is the sound of the pickups on the Les Paul Special II model?
No, we're comparing between the pickups of an Epiphone Les Paul Special II and a Epiphone Les Paul Standard.
If you're referring to the comparison of the Les Paul Special and SG Special, then maybe yes, since they are both open coil humbuckers. Maybe only. Lol.
