Enquiry: 9V Pedal Adaptor

Hi,

Has anyone have a bad experience with a 3rd party 9V adaptor?
i.e: It actually damage your pedal after some time using it.

Recently I just bought a $10 9V adaptor for my pedals, but I was told I shouldn't be using that. Because after a period of using it, I would have damaged my pedals. I was advised to get an original BOSS or Digitec adaptor.

I don't know how true is this, so I would like to seek for some advices from you guys.

Cheers!

Check the amperage value of the new adapter(xxxmA).It should be at least the same value as the Boss type & shouldn't be any problem.Btw you should consider the number of pedal u use also.

For those kind of generic adapters, the main worry should be the fluctuating voltage that the adapter spits out.

e.g. Some of them are giving out 9V one moment and the next moment it's 9.7V and then it could drop to 8.5V.

If you have a multimeter, you can check the voltage by putting the red lead into the plug and the black lead on the barrel.

im using WINSTAR adaptor for my g2...nothing happens..

BTW,is grounding the adaptor would eliminate noise like buzzing etc?

You can get a 1 spot 9v adapter and some daisy chains.

Works well for us.

And some have had their 1 spots blown, but the pedals are fine.

Just get a backup in case. And also buy more of the daisy chains, cause they run out of stock very fast.

Unregulated vs. regulated.

For unregulated power supplies, the power fluctuates and is not consistent, thus it can actually damage your pedals. However, a regulated power supply has a limited maximum voltage, and thus it won't rise to dangerous levels. Regulated power supplies tend to be more expensive, but if you know where to look, you can get some at really good prices.

I used to use a Onespot but because of it being unregulated, I switched to a regulated Biyang adapter that was $10 cheaper.

i wire my own "daisy chains". so far so good. i oso use third party adaptors. not sure whether its really worth the cost to switch to proper adaptors.

hi guys,

thanks for all the responses.

btw, EugeneSmasher, where do i get this "Biyang adapter "?

and how do i actually find out whether mine is a regulated power supply?

PM sent to liangerism, but for everyone's benefit, yeah they are available at Standard Value at $25, built-in daisy chain so yeah, thats a disadvantage if you have more than five pedals. Regulated supply.

On regulated vs. unregulated, regulated produce very little noise or feedback even at high-gain distortion settings. The voltage doesn't fluctuate.
