emg pickups...

i hav 2 guitars both fitted with emg 85 n 81.... while another a seymour duncan active single coil..

in my opinion,

emg sounds bright but its dirty when playing
complicated riffs like megadeth or dream theater.. its more for playing
ring out riffs..

seymour duncan arent that bright with no lows, but it is effective when
playing complicated riffs... very detailed..

i mean like lets say ur guitar comes wit only 2 pots and the emgs come wit 4?and if there is no space in the compartment cos the epi explorer one very small?who do u usually send the guitar to?

no you dont have to route new holes for extra pots. go to the esp website and look at the emg equipped guitars, they dont need 4 pots

im thinking of replacing the stock pickups on my ibanez rg321mh.

so far the EMGs really interest me most...

ive heard of the dimarzio and seymour duncans as well, but i dont really know which is best.

i play alot of metal, and am looking for that distinct chug sound. a thick, heavy and chunky distortion. i dont really solo alot, more of rhythmic riffs.

any recommendations? EMG 81b 85n, 81b, 60n etc etc? or seymour duncan invaders, SH-8, dimarzio X2N on the bridge?

cheers!

wah sehh 2006 thread oso can revive back
anyway im still having my stock pickups in my rg
emg or not...
not really important for me
amp's distortion plays a bigger part

well, i just used the search function. well, theres only so much your amp can do. ..im still really looking to swap my pups.

not really. its more like "there's only so much ur pickups can do" 5 tonal options at most?
while a good amp. may have up to 3 channels, clean, crunch, heavy for marshalls.
and not to mention the all fantastic EQ! pro EQing is key!

pickups to me is more like, if u want a SPECIFIC tone... but good tones are everywhere..

lIKE i SAID 2 YEARS AGO...DONT GET EMGS... unless 3 sgls for strat.

kick ass tone grab DiMarzios (today last day swee lee sale -30% off) or Seymoere Duncans...

U can refer to their respective sites to check out which pup suits your tone / style etc as a rough guide

i was really looking into the dimarzio X2N for bridge, but i need to find out more about that pup. any experience?

loathed: x2n - yes..used before - sold it the same day ..

Its loudest and most high poweered pick up. Lots of highhs too which some may like but I found it over powering to my cuppa tea. You could check the DiMarzio website for detail.

Re the emg humbuckers - thh ones I've got now are on a FR Ibanez with a basswood body. Its also got an SA in the mid. I totally dont like my sound at all but some of you all may like it..one man's meat is another man's poison? here's an example of mme and my ibanez wt the emgs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O2xF6ArtHmw&feature=related (im the one with the cap) to me the humbuckers sound too modern .... btw thats fellow softie tetraggammon on guitar
