Hey guys,
Anyone used the EMG Afterburner or Strat Presence Control (SPC) before? I'm looking to throw something nice into my guitar. 8)

Cheerio!

hi cow
i haf afterburner(AFB) install to my ibanez EDR170 together with EMG81(bridge) & 60(neck). i haf da sacrifice my tone pot to install AFB(anyway i seldom adjust so it doesnt matter).

AFB is jus a booster for the PUs(up to +20dB). quite useful if u wanna crank up ur gtr gain for solos. but like most EMG PUs, AFB needs battery to operate(i use only one 9V batt for the 60, 81 & AFB). the battery can last up to 3000hrs (claim by EMG.com), so far i still using the same battery after the installation (its abt 1yr ago).

Thanks for the reply man... :)

But I just realised I don't have the space to do it, no space for the battery at all! :( Oh well!

I'd just have to rely on pedals...

heh dats y not many ppl like EMGs cos of the battery issue. but i dunno abt the tone wise. cos i find 81s got dis nice crunch wif dist, but the cleans sounded kinda thin.

anyway if u wanna booster for solos u can try using a EQ. its useful for sustaining. or maybe u can try using overdrive (ibanez tube screamer or maxon OD), like kirk hammett, killswitch engage, zakk wlyde.

Heh... I'm using Dimarzios, Breed in the neck and X2N in the Bridge. Right now, my guitar is being refretted so a friend lent me his Epiphone Les Paul with EMG 60/81. I think the mellowness of the LP off sets the thinness... but really.. .it feels and sounds kind of lifeless to me... passive pups seem to sound more... hmmm.... natural?

Anyway, its cool... trying to have a custom boost done for me. :) I've got the Ibanez TS9DX right now for boosting and its pretty fine so far... just too much colouring if its placed just before the clean amp...

Cheerio!
Daniel
