EMG 81 & 85 into JEM7V

hi guys, i am just wondering as EMG 81 & 85 are active pickups, they require batteries to work; will the slim body of JEM7V be able to accomodate 2 batteries ?

been toying with the idea of removing the DiMarzios and install EMGs. if it's not possible can u guys recommend a set of humbuckers that sound like the EMGs ?

THANKS !

you would have to remove or disable the passive single coil though. or do some serious rerouting. and the JEM7V can definitely accommodate the batteries. also you might wanna check out the dimarzio d-activators. haven't tried them personally but they're passives that supposedly sound like actives. hence the name. :)

ohh, u mean the middle pickup would be obsolete ?
i would still want to have a middle pickup.
been wanting to experiment a H-S-H combo with 2 active humbuckers and 1 passive single coil.
if it's not possible i might just drop the idea.

if i'm not wrong, the middle pickup won't work if you put the actives in cos the pot values are different. there are active single coils though. you can probably get the electronics rerouted so that it does work but it'll probably be very tedious and expensive.

ohh, i see.
damn, experimenting can be expensive.
guess i should drop the idea of fitting EMGs then.
thanks jskadiang.

but are there any passive pickups that sound like the EMG 81 & 85 other than the DiMarzio D-Activators ?
i'm not a fan of DiMarzio pickups somehow, if i'm i would have stick to the DiMarzio Evo that comes with the JEM7V.

Why not just put a EMG SA single coil in the middle? It's a pretty sweet pickup in it's own right. My brother's RG used to have a 85-SA-81 configuration. Later on he moved them to his Ibanez S and they even fit in that ultra slim guitar so your JEM should be ok.

That's why Dimarzio has a variety of pickups.

Its a little... absurd to say you dislike Dimarzio just because you didn't enjoy the Evos.

Perhaps after trying what... 10 or more, then you could say that but... give the D-Activators a chance.

hey bro, what i meant is i dont enjoy DiMarzio Evos. not all of DiMarzio pickups.
i'm in favour of EMGs because i've heard them myself and i like the tone.
that's what i meant. ;)

perhaps this sentence here: i'm not a fan of DiMarzio pickups somehow, if i'm i would have stick to the DiMarzio Evo that comes with the JEM7V. was not written properly.

Hi I have an 85-SLV-89 combi on my FGM100 (also very slim body - think S series) and it used only one 9v batt, so i think U'll only require 1 as well, unless I'm mistaken. The batt cldn't fit in completely, but only jutting out a lil.
