Hello all, i'm new and noob to electric guitars
and i just wanted to ask
1. How many types electric gutiars/amplifier are there? (i only noe Normal guitars have acoustic and classical =X )
2. The differences among all tis types of electric guitars?
3. Any cheap and nice place for me to buy electric guitar and amplifier?

Thank you for ur help! =D

1. There are manymanymanymanymanymanymanymanymanymany electric guitars and amps out there. electric guitars got hollow bodied,semi-hollow and your usual guitar. amps there are solid state amps, tube amps etc. you can google for more info if you want.

2. Not sure about differences. can ask around or google them.

3. Peninsula Plaza. there got alot of guitar shops. namely Davis, Guitar 77, Guitar Connection.

Hope this helps. ^^ anyway welcome to soft.

davis is good. you should try out sx guitar. i mean for its price, its quite worth, especially for beginners. $200 should get you a full set :)

+1 to SV. SmFizz, its like asking if u work at Davis. If ppl find a good thing, best to share it with others. I for one do the exact same thing as Ryan. There's nothing wrong is there? In any case, SV does have very good stuff on offer, anyone who's tried their Timbre, Swing and Marlique ranges of guitars will attest to that.

Alright, back to the topic.

1. 3 main types: Hollow ( Gibson/Epiphone ES335 ), semi-hollow ( Ibanez PGMs i think ) and solid ( Fender Tele/Strat, and most others ). Amps there are 3 types: solid-state, tube or valve and hybrid amps ( combination of tube and SS, a rather confusing notion i know ). Best to Google or Wiki.

2. Differences are mainly in the tone, hollow and semi-hollows tend to sound more..........well, hollow, due to there being air spaces behind the pickups Solid bodies sound more................lolz, solid, due to the fact there that is no air space for the sound to resonate. BUT, pickups, amp, pedals, EQ, blah blah blah also count a lot towards tone, so don't be too worried abt this yet. Best to start with a solid-body. Safest option IMHO.

3. Many shops around, most mentioned above, shld be enough to keep u busy hunting around for a while. Best to go with someone who has experience, as a few places might try to fleece u.

For your first guitar, i recommend u go and do proper research b4 taking the plunge, it wld be a lose-lose situation if ur first guitar is something u dun like. Maybe u cld post wat bands u listen to, songs u like, wat kinda sound u looking for ( eg. thick and warm ) so we can recommend u stuff. Cheerz!

Nope I dun work there but I go there often :) so I know what stuffs that are good there.

I like any kind of music. I would like to play mostly rock on my electric guitar. like canon in d rock version and pirates of carribean rock. I heard all tis on youtube and i was very impressed by the nice sound they made.
So, any recommendation on which type i should get? =]

bro, the es335 is a semi hollow guitar, and a PGM isnt semi hollow. the f-holes are PAINTED on it. ahhaha. an example of a hollow bodied guitar is the epiphone emperor.

Oh ya sry lar i study 'O' Levels until my guitar stuff all gong gong liao..............sianz. SX is a brand that sells mainly lower-end guitars that cater to beginners. The abovementioned thing is the SX starter pack, comes with amp, guitar, strap, picks and cable, all for $200. Its good if u have a low, low budget and need everything. If u hv a higher budget, i recommend u dun go into starter packs but buy the guitar, amp and accessories seperately. Personally, i had bad experiences with starter packs so that's why i don't really recommend them.

Ok, for canon in D rock and pirates of caribbean rock u shld try to get a guitar with humbucker, hence i think the SX will be out. Dun think its got humbuckers. U cld try these guitars:

1. Timbre HSS strat
2. Yamaha Pacifica 112J
3. Schecter Omen 6
4. Ibanez RG321MH

All three have at least one humbucker, although i wld go for either the Yamaha or the Timbre bcos they also have single coils, more tonal variety. The Omen 6 has 2 humbuckers, and there is no coilsplit option unless u go and get it modded. The Ibanez is on the heavy sounding side, so if u want blues or jazz u gotta zhng the amp and pedal settings quite a bit. I suggest u go and try out these 4 guitars and decide which is the best for u.
