Electric Guitar Strings Reviews

with 'etc' you mean other brands obviously

Expensive 24 bucks!!!
but it takes its name literally, the tone is definitely clear, and they use a one micro thin layer of coating, so you have coating protection with uncoated sound. so yeah I'm not joking they last a hell of a long time with little maintenance and still feel fresh, the color barely changes. but however i kept getting buzzing at the 6th fret on the low E string. after further inspection it wasnt my fret or action or even truss rod, it was the string itself. i looked down the neck and I could see a 'hump' or a 'bent' in the string at the 6th fret, so I dont know where that came from But I never had that before

He's probably asking for recommendations...

I've used Ernie Balls, D'Addarios, GHS and Everlys.

If you want something affordable and good, go for D'addarios and Ernie Balls. They feel very good and sound very good too, and stay in tune. I've only performed with D'addarios though, and although they're slightly more painful to play (from my experience that is) they're solid and reliable strings. And they sound a little better than Ernie Balls.

If you want something higher-end yet affordable, there's Everlys that you can only order from local online store Bluegrasswoods (Google it, the website's only a few clicks away). $11 a pack for the B-52 bombers, and were they awesome. Best-feeling strings I've ever played.

GHS... I wouldn't trust them on-stage. I've had random incidents of GHS strings snapping on me, even relatively new strings and even with regular wiping down. They stay in tune, sound good and feel nice, but I wouldn't be surprised if they broke on me. And set after set, they've let me down in some way. The only good ones so far were the GHS Silk and Steels for acoustic guitar that were on my Yamaha F310. Other sets I've used were disappointing. Once you perform on stage, you'll realize that strings is something you have to be really careful about. Not everybody can have two guitars or more on stage. One bad experience, and that company's over for you.

Funny thing is, other people seem to be having good experiences with GHS strings. Guess I'm just unfortunate in getting all the 'bad' sets.

Dean Markleys... I only tried their acoustic strings, and they're very nice. Nice tone, and the Alchemys last and keep their tone for a long time. The Alchemys are coated strings (google it if you're not familiar with coated strings) and I'd definitely turn to Alchemys if I wanted coated acoustic strings. Electric strings... I can't comment but I heard Blue Steels are good.

So that's it for me.. I don't experiment very much with brands, but I don't stick to just one brand. But one bad experience with a brand, and it's all over. I'm not using that brand on-stage...

Where did you buy it? I'm interested in trying out new brands.

For me, I've tried Ernie Ball Slinky, Ernie Ball Coated Slinky, GHS Boomers.

Depending on the guitar, back when I borrowed an SG, the Ernie Ball strings sounded so good and fresh, plays very well too. But when I tried it on a Floyd Rose guitar, it seems rather odd / weird. So I'm using GHS Boomers for the Floyd Rose guitar. It works very well.

I'm trying to experiment around with the brands still, in order to find the "perfect brand" (quoted this due to the fact that this is subjective) for my guitar.

cleartones i believe are from maestro...

I've been through.. Ernie ball slinkies (both titanium and non titanium coated), d'addario, curt mangan, DR, elixirs electric and acoustic. now im using GHS boomers on all my electrics. and elixir poly or nano web (i cant rmb! the one that doesnt flake off) on my acoustics.

i use daddario cos i dont really give a crap abt how strings sound. i prefer how they sound after they have died anyway. but 2 main reasons i use them:

1. they are cheap
2. they are sealed air-tight.

d'addario,cheap(5 bucks)
it does not really matter what string ur using(but the gauge is!)
if your using an electric guitar, not a drastic difference unless you are
very sensitive :)

weird too, sometimes i feel the dead strings sound better too. in a way, there's a harder "chck" sound when you pick. but doesnt do somethings too la.

yeah i'm on quite an adventure of trying new strings. ernies sound and feel great when new. need quite some change. d'addarios like i dont feel good nor bad about them.

on the topic, for those who use floating trems, what strings do u recommend? i'd like ones which stretches fast, not after some playing. SIT has served me well, but for some reason i dont feel good using them. maybe cause they look dull. haha. my lespaul with ernies look so shiny the strings, but the SIT on my xiphos look so dull.

yea, GHS boomers, but using a 7 string now, so im too lazy to find the extra bass string myself, damn.

wow greg still awake?

I use Dean Markley's blue steel most of the time. Its cryogenically (sic?) processed just like how they freeze the alien life forms. Tone wise compare to to previous strings I've tried, ernie ball or d'addario, I don't feel a big difference. But this definitely last very long.
