Hi everyone.

I am looking for a module cum pad thing which is easy to integrate my own sound/midi in. like this one,
http://www.sweelee.sg/Product_Details.asp?ProductID=736
Swee lee selling it at 1.3k. Is there a cheaper alternative?

Hope you guys get what I'm trying to say as i don't know too much technical terms. I'm using this alongside an accustic drum set so i am able to produce custom sound effects or even loops while playing. A near good example is Akira jimbo's playing but I don't think investing in a full edrum kit is needed for what i need.

I've built DIY triggers for cheap before to convert an acoustic kit to electronic, but the module with the sounds is still the killer in terms of price. I bought a TD-6V module alone from the US since Swee Lee refused to sell modules alone..cost me way too much.

Building triggers cost me a few hundred bucks (including all my experimenting), but the module cost close to $800. This is excluding the price of the drums to be converted themselves. FYI, I sold everything just a few months after I completed the kit, haha.

If I'm not mistaken, Akira Jimbo uses triggers attached to the rims of his drums to trigger sounds so he still retains his acoustic drum sound. Only hitting the rims triggers the samples. It's a nice idea that you could use too - rim triggers are actually really easy to make. But again, you need a "brain" or module for the sounds/loops.

The SPD-20 is a great solution IMO if you just want to add electronic sounds to a kit. It's a module and trigger pad all-in-one. Plus you can trigger it using aforementioned DIY triggers too.

eBay is your friend: Search for SPD-20 here!

yeah.. elevenine is true, there are lots of drummers out there uses the sampling pad since they have samples built in and it doesn't compromise looks, feel and sound of an acoustic drum, it's just place wherever the drummer feels comfortable to it...

making clapping sound or anything, yea well it's a great alternative, thought it's quite expensive too i must add...

modules, my guess the alesis dm5 is the cheapest alternative... 250 usd if i can remember..

diy lah and use the dm5.. it's good.. but i've scraped off my diy intentions and sticked with acoustics haha!!..

reason: the td-20 is EXTREMELY COSTLY.. can buy good sound system with that kinda money...

we're talking in the range of 1800 USD for the td-20, the flagship module made by roland, which is extremely close to a real set, though the feeling would still be compromised though even though u have already diy'ed ur kit...

check out www.roland.com and click their forum page, and towards diy, there's plethora of info there..

another alternative is to google it, also lots of info...

good luck mate:D

Thanks mates.... DIY is a great idea but i do not have my own accustic set to really try out the usability when its done...

SPD-20 is indeed ex. I was wondering is there something similliar but by other brands and cheaper... I was looking at the yamaha portable edrums but find it awkward when placed with an accustic set, but atleast it comes with 2 paddles. can just add sounds to the paddles....

Think i will try to find a cheap spd 20 2nd from ebay first than.
