Just wanted to know if the Edge III is an upgrade to the Edge II or not.

And
Heard the new models come with the infinity 3 and 4 humbuckers. Any good?

the Edge III is one DOWN from the Edge Pro II. i had something to say about it in GEAR NEWS 2005, under the RG320 review... 8)

the Infinity humbuckers aren't new, it's just that they are resident in more guitars this year, replacing the Powersound & Axis models. they sound more decent in mahogany bodies but don't expect a fantastic tone out of them, they weren't conceived to be such.

they might not have too much to say there, mainly because the 2005 models which sport the Edge III vibrato have not debuted in many parts of the states...

the new Edge (Pro/ II/ III) vibratos by Ibanez are generally much better than the TRS offering. even if you acquire the Edge III equipped RGs, i won't say that you've actually bought a dud guitar. however, it has its inclinations towards the TRS but a more functional incarnation.

i've asked swee lee whether they still stock the 2004 model- they do but it's a very limited quantity. maybe you won't see these anymore in 2/ 3 months time... 8)

Well, jemsite has a lot to say abt it already. Trust me, I'm a regular there. 8)

Anyway, the Edge Pro II and III are better than the TRS trems... but I think you cannot retrofit an original floyd rose in the Pro II, which was what most people did to upgrade their crap TRS. You can't retrofit in an Edge or Lo Pro Edge too.
So, you should think twice and check before getting an Edge III equipped model. For all you know, you might find it really bad but at least its possible to retrofit an OFR or Gotoh into it.

Better to get an older model which has the Edge (THE best trem) or Lo-Pro Edge. Or even better, get a ZR trem S series... ZR trems are getting really rave reviews.

Cheerio!
